A day in the life of a Japanese waitress in Tokyo working at a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. This is a typical work day for a waitress in the Japanese food industry and the typical working hours in Japan. This is a look inside of Japanese work culture in Japanese restaurants. Working in Japan is quite unique and depending on the industry may be a bit different from job to job, but many of the jobs also share similar characteristics. The video follows Yuki in her typical japan work day from morning until the evening and everything that happens in between at work. She arrives at the teppanyaki restaurant when it opens and leaves when it closes, very typical for Japanese restaurants. Yuki is a waitress at Pandora, a Teppanyaki restaurant, Japanese style flat grill, which has been a local favorite since 1972 serving Kobe beef steaks and teppanyaki course meals. During her time working as a full-time waitress, she learned the importance of reading and anticipating the customers needs and acting beforehand. It’s a strong part of a Japanese omotenashi culture, a deep and honest form of hospitality, treating customers with respect without asking for anything in return. So for her, even a smile from her customers brings her true joy. One of the main reasons why in Japan tips at the end of the meal are very uncustomary. This among other things shared in this video is what makes working in Japan as a waitress very unique experience.

The Hells Angels, the Comanchero motorcycle club and the Aussie Cartel heads are having talks while you are reading this about their growth in Australia and in Asia. Exterminating The Yakusa presence and their activities in the country would be considerably profitable for the Hells Angels, the Comanchero motorcycle club and the Aussie Cartel. The goal is to initiate their expansion over the Yakusa in Australia and to push it as far as in Japan. According to their plans, they are and will be supported by the Sinaloa Cartel for a part of the gains obtained and it would be done by the end of 2023. They told their mens to prioritize the capture, mostly for torture and interrogation before killing and for selling but to kill right away if they can not capture. This is what members having close ties with Hells Angels chapter leaders are talking about. Some members of the Hells Angels and of the Sinaloa Cartel had already start moving to Australia. The mens had been told to get the job done by any means, even by mass killing if needed. If you are directly involved let your comrades know so you can be prepared for what is happening before it is too late to prevent the bloodbath and your fall !

I'm currently working here in Japan for 4 months with the same job as her, but we are called "company employees (shain)". Not just "waitress". Our workload is very similar and NORMAL here in Japan. It's really hard but I'm glad that we're actually well-compensated here. What I earn here per hour is equivalent to what I earn in PH per day. So yeah, it's worth it, just tiring, very tiring :(

One of the Greatest things about Japanese education is the cleanliness they're taught and the respect for someone else's efforts, like cultivating vegetables and dairy so you don't have to do it. I actually love this about any culture and our country really needs to get on the same boat. It's hard process for overly privileged kids but its possible and we can start with the parents, by making them more assertive and less afraid of their childrens backlashing
Vor 7 Monatehoniedew +4329
She is so impressive. calling her as just a waitress is a total understatement - she does the duties of every role from dishwasher to GM. Edit: I’m in the USA and the roles are usually segmented unless you’re a manager role or owner/family
Vor yearKevin W +151

Vor yearWill L +142
I am half Japanese and worked at a Japanese restaurant during high school. I was the same - I served tables, made drinks and dessert, dishwasher, and kitchen hand. Maybe it's a part of Japanese restaurant culture. I know that in the US, the roles seem to be a lot more segmented - e.g. a hostess and a server would have very different roles. Quite interesting
Vor yearbingboyify +125
exactly, her role is more like an assistant restaurant manager in the hospitality industry rather than just a server.

@ctcarino It was fantastic. Went there for lunch. My wife and I got the set, and it was filling. There were only two workers (we may have been the first customers of the day). Beef was premium, and nothing was overly complicated that could take away from the Wagyu center piece. It was the most expensive meal we had in our Japan trip (less than what we'd pay in the States) but well worth the experience.

I worked in the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant in America for about 4 years. I was surprised at just how similar things were to this restaurant, it almost felt like the same place. Especially the part about the employee meals not being on the menu. We’d just make random stuff, sometimes experiment with ingredients. Bbq chicken using tonkatsu sauce was a common one. I even made bacon and egg makizushi a few times, it was actually quite delicious. Brings back memories😂

Vor 24 TageBeauty Unboxed +1001
She is not just a waitress. She could manage her own business with all the tasks she used to do. Amazing!
Vor yearJensen Raylight +20
managing her own business is a tall order, not only you pigeonhole yourself into a multi million dollar debt to establish your business, you also somehow have to figure out how to attract customer, and make food that people actually like. not to mention, owning a restaurant business mean that you no longer have any private time left. you should work harder than any normal human, or else, those Rent, Electricity and Payroll gonna haunt you in your sleep. owning a restaurant is a torture compared to working at the average 9-5 office job

Vor 10 MonateMa5jay5dontxdoxthat +2
I don't think so. From comments this is actually expected from all her coworkers. She may be doing this now but it's doesn't always mean she does it every single day. They said it's common for this amount of work and effort in most restaurant workers in Japan, and honestly in some restaurants in the us too. I know a few places that will ask their employees who show interest to come up with drinks or suggest dishes or ingredients for the special menus or seasonal menus. My current job right now is just a a barista but we can come up with different food to serve, and are in charge of cash counting in the beginning of the day. This is normally in work places that are small businesses or mom and pop type places though.

Just wow dude, she's pretty excellent at her professional work. What inspire me is that her sheer experience in the hospitality field is massive, a honed skill specifically on communication. Also, culture in Japan what helps them innovates on current trends.
Vor 10 MonateRitchie Dennis +4
Her hard working is not forced. There are many easier jobs in Japan. But she selects this work because she wants, for example, to continue her otaku hobby or to manage her store in the future. Her responsibility for the work deserves respect, but she never seems to be unhappy, nor is the society to blame.

Hello, I love your videos! Does overtime in Japan work the same way as in the US? Does Yuki get overtime pay for when she works over 40 hours in a week? I hope so! She more than deserves it for her dedication & hard work!
Vor 11 MonateKai Mitchell
Next I feel put out doing a 9 hour shift, I gotta remember Yuki. Not only does she work just over 12 hours, I’m guessing 5 days a week (maybe more I may have missed that part of the video if they mentioned it) but she does it efficiently and politely and happily.

Dear Paulo, my girlfriend works at a nursery home for elderly people who suffer from dementia. Her job is to completely take care of them. This is in The Netherlands and I would love to see how it is in comparison to Japan. Would you consider doing a 'One day in the life of an eldery caretaker'? Something like that. Thank you :)

A big thank you to her and everyone at the restaurant for allowing us a glimpse into their daily routine. I know it wouldn’t be easy to go about normally with a guy and his camera following them around. And a big thank you to you Paolo for making this series so that we can see what daily lives in Japan are like.

It’s wild how much she does as a waitress. Normally, western culture has it divided as multiple jobs. She seems to be doing well for herself, but hope she gets compensated quite nicely. Also the fact she managed to get a collaboration with Vocaloid producers is really cool.

Well being? Yes job security but she’s working from 9am to 11pm 5-6 days a week. She’s fine with that because she’s Japanese and has that amazing work ethic. Westerners are lazy and wouldn’t last a week in her shoes.

I wish you’d ask more about how they feel Paolo.
Vor 11 MonateSimplyDad +1
I don't think they would understand that type of question. Japanese culture is extremely different to Western culture. Your position in society is everything individuality is not important. It's looked down on.
Vor 11 MonateFilipp Alexandrov
@SimplyDad Maybe, but then there is reasons people hide themselves in anime or die from overworking. Maybe they should pay a little more attention to that.

Makanai actually isn't exclusive to Japanese kitchens. A lot of family/privately owned Western restaurants often have "family meal" where the kitchen staff make a big spread of dishes for themselves and the front house staff. It's not a super common thing to have in corporate owned/chain establishments though, at least not that I can say from my own experience in some of them. But, I've worked in a good handful of non-chain establishments in the US and family meal is how I discovered a lot of my favorite foods from different styles and cultures.
