Easily one of the best flicks in a long time. Major Smith was correct in ignoring orders to return to base and instead tracked down and rescue his cut off troops despite risking the lives of all Delta company members. Erwin Rommel did not do the same in one particular WW2 engagement in North Africa for a similar small number of men cut off and his reputation among the rest of the army suffered greatly thereafter.

Another propaganda movie to hide the shame of USA invading and killing millions of Vietnamese civilians for no reason.... the great boxer Muhammad Ali knew better

@moodsawa I am familiar with John Pilger. I am familiar with Vietnam Veteran disillusionment. I am familiar with war crimes perpetuated by Americans in Vietnam. I am familiar with the anti-war movement and Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I do not think the Vietnam War was a good thing. However, having said that, I also have come to understand the war in a lot of aspects and you can't paint the entire issue with the same brush. It is an incredibly complex topic as I've said.

Vor 9 Tage
moodsawa

@Jesse B you could do that...can you look for John Pielger story while in Vietnam and his interviews with the soldiers ??? And then Cambodia ???

Vor 9 Tage
Jesse B
Jesse B

@moodsawa I said "the" war. The Vietnam War. I've studied it for years and years. American soldiers killing innocent civilians was not a common occurrence. It was not wide spread like you seem to believe. Those incidents were isolated and I'm in no way condoning that behavior or the war as a whole. I think you've misunderstood Pilger's work. The North Vietnamese and Viet Cong committed massacres against innocent civilians as well and routinely murdered villagers who wouldn't cooperate with them. I think you need to do a lot more reading about this conflict from unbiased sources. How the hell is my story of North and South "just a story"? It is objective fact. Vietnam is one of the most convoluted and complicated events in modern history and cannot be boiled down to "America is bad". I also think that you need to read accounts from veterans themselves to hear their thoughts rather than basing your beliefs on misconceptions. I can recommend you a lot of books if you'd like.

Vor 9 Tage
moodsawa
moodsawa

@Jesse B I just see alot of ignorance in you. I know nothing about war ??? Maybe...coz all the American so called wars were in essence , invasions. American soldiers who were there killed innocents without even knowing why the did so. John Pielger, a famous Australian journalists went to visit them and found most of them were just killing people as ordered blindly. Your story of north and south seems very good,..but man, its just a story...keep telling yourself and faming veterans, they only worked for corporations and have to be honoured to the end so as to prevent them seeing their own guilt of being murderers.... FYI can you research on an Afghanistan veteran called DAVID CROWLEY and ask yourself why did the USA murder him and all his family including a 3 year old daughter at their home !??? Wake up n if not don't infect us with fakery

Vor 10 Tage
Jesse B
Jesse B

You clearly know nothing about the war. North Vietnam was illegally invading South Vietnam and Communists in the south were rising up against the government. South Vietnam begged their allies for help and they got it. It was never an "invasion". US troops never entered the North, the goal was to protect the South, who were an ally. There are countless South Vietnamese refugees who had to flee after the North took their country, who hate North Vietnam to this day and really appreciate America and its allies' attempts to help. As misguided and warped as they may have been. By the way look up massacres and war crimes committed by the PAVN and NLF. It was a very convoluted war and there is no simple way to view it. This comment is very ignorant. Lastly, this isn't a propaganda movie at all. It's not making ANY statements about the war overall, in fact it shows the soldiers' disinterest in being in Vietnam. This movie simply documents a single battle that took place in August 1966. The veterans of that battle were mostly teenagers at that time and deserve their story told.

This movie is very accurate to real events as retold by vets of the battle, many of whom are sadly no longer with us. Besides being factually correct in retelling the battle, from a story perspective it plays out much like 2001s black hawk down with the 2 battles having many similarities. Both forces were under equipped, what the film does not tell you is that the standard Aussie digger only carried 3, 20 round mags into combat or 60 rounds of 7.62. That tended to run out fast. A lot of the force was also cut off from each other and it was the skill of field commanders that brought the force together and both forces were surrounded by an overwhelmingly numerically superior enemy. Both endings are gut wrenching and it is hard not to tear up.

0:11 And a million ways to die in the west, great now I'm thinking about that dumb flick, thanks trailer! 0:13 Planning, logic, weapons, all of that is crap. 0:16 what about trusting the man infront of you? Otherwise you'll get it on the neck or chest... 0:19 You mean trust is a two way street? Please drop more pearls of wisdom! 0:24 And your dialogue is like beating a dead horse, shit now I'm doing it! 0:29 "If it bleeds, we can kill it". 0:36 That's kind of what happens when you go to a town with no people in it... 0:45 Oh right, this is the edited "Green band" trailer where they awkwardly cut the scenes up to edit out the obvious violence and gore the theatrical cut will contain... 0:49 "Oh is that command? Tell them I said 'hi'"! 0:54 Well, we're almost halfway into the trailer and besides some impressive wide shots, the film is looking rather bland. 1:03 "I thought they had like.....three guys!" 1:06 So it's "Dunkirk" without anything interesting? Gotcha... 1:10 "We sent them to get the Nacho Fries from the local Taco Bell, those are only available every so often!" 1:18 That's generally what the army you fight against does... 1:27 "Unless you can do a really cool trick, like twirling the gun around in between shots!" 1:31 "I want to take a real picture for my frame, I still carry the stock photo that comes with it for reference!" 1:36 Going home and forgetting about this film is what the theater goers will do. 1:39 Silent and slow motion in a war film? Truly groundbreaking! All joking aside, thanks to all who have, are, and will serve in the military! Support our troops!

Wrong. This movie is just accurately depicting a single battle that took place in August of 1966 and is making no statement about the war as a whole. Do some reading. PS this movie depicts the NLF and PAVN units they were fighting very heroically, those people continuously charged through heavy artillery fire to reach their enemy, there is nothing braver than that. Guys like you just need to make issues where there aren't any. It's an Australian movie, it's gonna be focused on Australians.

Did these teenage boys start the war? No, they were drafted out of high school and forced over there. And in this battle they fought against NORTH Vietnamese, who had ILLEGALLY invaded the South. South Vietnam requested help from its allies. Australia didn't invade a country to kill its people. It entered a country upon request from that country's government to attempt to rid it of an insurgency.

Australia, U.S. and Canada were inundated with refugees when we pulled out. We extended our hospitality. Something some of these clowns commenting choose to ignore.

GOD FATHER The ignorance of some people. America was in Vietnam alongside Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines. It's a story about men who came home to have their efforts not even recognised by their own government for decades. For many, recognition and appreciation came much too late. They deserve to have their story told, in the same way that any other heroic combatant from either side would. This movie is one of only two produced EVER, about Australians in Vietnam...……..and certainly the only one about this battle. All soldiers here deserve respect. They don't make policy. They just do their fucking jobs.
