Full review, track battle, and drag race of the Blackwing versus Plaid versus BMW M5 CS - what better way to find out why the top dog Cadillac is an icon?
In this episode, Jason Cammisa reviews the CT5-V Blackwing along with the CT4-V Blackwing and the BMW M5 CS, and brings along a TMS Plaid to show why future Blackwings will be electric.
SCCA Hall of Fame race-car driver Randy Pobst breaks the sedan lap record at Willow Springs (Big Willow) three times in one episode: which of these 3 super-sedans is quickest around a track?
The episode starts out with a drag race to see which one is quickest in a straight line - and the results might surprise you.
This is the definitive review of the CT5-V and the most sideways review of the BMW M5 and its incredible AWD system.

This truly was an amazing video. And the only video that I think matches this production quality along with excellent commentary is the Audi RS6 video that Carfection did last year. Great job guys!

Honestly everything was amazing, long enough to sit and watch but left us wanting more, editing and film angles is at a level that would embarrass Need for Speed, the car selection was like a long awaited boxing match (nothing Logan Paul) and the delivery... Well its Jason Cammisa and Randy Post, automotive shows haven't been as this emotionally engaging since the old Top gear. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

The Cadillac CT5-V is one of those cars that, at first, has been underappreciated by the general public but someday soon will fetch HUGE dollars over its original price simply because enthusiasts will all realize just how special this vehicle actually is. As we move into an era of most cars being EVs, this becomes a dark horse for one of the greatest cars ever build.
Vor 11 MonateKevin Townsend +6
I've got a 2018 CTSV and I will never trade it or go EV
Vor 5 Monateanydaynow +8
Yep this car is like the cute thicc chick next door that does all the things, and the Plaid is the instagram model that just lays there like a dead fish. Kids these days need to drive a powerful RWD stick shift with all the nanny controls off to experience the difference! Many km of fun!

@Kevin Townsend I'm hanging onto my 2007 V1 like grim death. Three radiators; two water pumps; front shocks; evap stuff: the list goes on, but still a fantastic car. GM nailed the first generation car.
Vor 3 MonateAlpha2GProject +106
Based on future value alone, what Jason said is the exact reason I think that the first generation CTS V will become the classic that everyone wants and sells for absurd prices. Give it 5-10 years and the Blackening will also become that rare Cadillac that skyrockets in worth. I've been watching and reading about the new V series for awhile now and as much as I love them it makes me want the first or second generation CTS V even more before it's too late.

It sucks because the CTxV stuff is floating right above what I can afford with announcement that Cadillac is going all EV. These cars are the ultimate gift from the GM ICE engineers (stick shift Cadillac V8 that does all the things when even the Corvette is an automatic these days, let that marinate), too bad the bean counters won't sell them at a discount the way they are doing with EVs. Not to mention what the stealerships are doing with the prices, when will they realize all they are doing in the long run with these markups is opening their own veins in a warm bath?
Vor 4 MonateJimmy the Gun +79
This was one of the greatest videos to me. It is so well done, from the amazing technology used for the first scenes walking on the paused/slow drag race track, to the humor and soundtrack and engine noise, to the overall philosophy of the driving experience. I just had the experience of driving the plaid. It’s so fast and so boring. I am so happy that Jason and the video production team made this video to illustrate what is happening in our car enthusiast world with phasing out all of these emotional masterpieces and making these lifeless super cars. With all of the federal emissions regulations choking out our greatest passions, I feel the sadness coming soon my car enthusiast brothers. Our days are numbered….
Vor 9 Monatemegashadow1390 +6
I hear ya, and am sorry that these type of cars will be basically hobby cars eventually, i don't understand how having the feeling of the Gs of a 0-60 launch rollercoaster on tap is lifeless? Boring sure, but lifeless nah. I hope more of the same hobbyists find ways to make Model S Plaids and other performance EVs more 'life'ful
Vor 9 MonateiiRoyalty +9
@megashadow1390 its a one and done type thing. You can launch it a few times but when there is only one factor going on it gets dull quickly.
Vor 9 Monatemegashadow1390 +3
@iiRoyalty no sarcasm, please do elaborate on these factors you speak of?
Vor 9 MonateiiRoyalty +8
@megashadow1390 I rented a plaid for a few days and the launching was very fun. After you launch it 40 times though you start to realize that's all it is and it has nothing else to it. None of the silly drama from a screaming engine that I and many others want. There is no feeling of control through a transmission. It can't stop very well and the handling is lackluster. It is just a 0-whatever you are brave enough to reach machine and that gets boring after you experience it for a while, in my opinion.
Vor 9 MonateDeez Nuts +7
I disagree a bit. I own the model 3 performance and since the batteries sit at the bottom and centered, the center of gravity is super low and the performance is incredible, it handles and takes turns like if i was driving on velcro. The brakes are sick as well better than most cars if not all in its price range. Check out the vids where it compared the braking performance between teslas and other super cars in car wow.

@Leopold Whylie 100%. Grand Tour went overboard with their production to the point where the episodes feel more like short action movies than actual car journalism. This is right in that sweet spot.
Vor yearOne Tin Solder +2
4:19 What does the CTS have that the Tesla doesn't? Well, after 4 or 5 years of performance driving (like drag racing), the CTS will likely have had transmission issues, differential issues, have paid thousands more for routine maintenance and thousands more for fuel. The CTS will be ready for an expensive timing chain and timing gear replacement, will likely need a water pump and serpentine belt and possibly a new alternator.

Randy Pobst made spinning that Escalade look effortless… much respect for those skills of his. Also, I love how nasty that LT4 sounds. It sucks that the Blackwing V8 was so short lived, but it just wasn’t necessary… the small block is lighter, more compact, more fuel efficient, and makes better power. This Caddy is proof that pushrods can more than compete with DOHC V8’s.
Vor yearAngelo Koutsoupias
What a great episode. Hearing the ending kinda made me sad that all these great icons are getting their hearts traded in for the electric replacements. The newer generations won’t understand what it’s like to hear those V8’s scream. And manual to top it off. Exciting yet sad episode. Good work showing the Blackwing at its best!

Fantastic video! As the new owner of a CT4 BW I’m intrigued by the mention of putting the NA Corvette engine in it instead. The two make about the same hp and tq. The weight can’t be far off and the complexity would be less than the twin turbos. That said, I think Cadillac did a fantastic job on the V6 TT and I’m absolutely thrilled to own one. Re-watching this almost a year after it launched, I noticed the sentence 4:03 "a ten year old electric car with a mild update". The S had been re-engineered a few times. Nothing like the beautiful sound of a V-8 ripping up the asphalt. Love that blackwing...

Dude the editing of this is definitely Hollywood worthy! Do they give Emmy’s for YouTube videos? Bcuz this deserves awards!! To all involved, you are rock stars!!

I Was obsessed with the cts v, then the ct6 black wing. And now even the even better ct5 black wing. This video was incredible to watch and has justified my obsession with Cadillac sports cars

21:46 from there on to the end was absolutely perfect. What a presentation, I hope the creators are proud of what they put together here. Wow

Agreed, I got goosebumps no joke. Absolutely stunning.

Just beautiful. You guys crushed it. Respectfully — I disagree with the bashing of the V6 in the CT4 V BW. GM has a fabulous history with FI v6 engines. I think they made the right choice with the v6 in this segment. The only alternative in my humble opinion would have been the actual Blackwing engine. I absolutely loved this video tho! Keep ‘‘em coming please.

Superb. Lexus GSF is a great alternative: bass baritone V8 sudden change at 3.6k rpm, RWD torque vector diff, great steering, and not too fast vs blown V8s. Nothing on record for any of the systems being anything but reliable and affordable if necessary. I shift at 6k rpm as engine does not get any more interesting to 7.3k redline (unlike, say Porsche flat six motors). Spoke with a BlackWing V8 manual owner other day at length, he loved it. Back seat waaay bigger than the v6 mode. Back seat folds 60/40 so handy yet here in ski country GSF better as ski pass through in center so yes 2 people in back is still viable.

Great video. Cadillac might be slower, but the sound is the experience and worth every penny. At this level it’s all about the papa Smurf, the power, six speeds and the scream! Something our kids will never experience.

How well this is shot almost deserves a Grammy. This is how all YouTube videos should be shot. And the honesty behind the film the reality of electric cars and the nonsense of oil cars. 2000 moving parts in an ice engine versus 20 moving parts in an electric vehicle.

Lol I gotta say this guy is very entertaining to watch, in a funny way he gives a ton of info on every car that is on the channel. I could watch your videos for hours.

The track time for the CT5 blackwing with the 10 speed auto needs to be done.

I ended the episode wondering how I can support the show. I cannot believe this content is free. Maybe time to buy a t-shirt and switch to Hagerty insurance.

This feels like a farewell to not only petrol-cars, but to emotional cars in general. good thing with this is: emotions are subjectiv. And i remember having the best moments in my 75 bhp Ford fiesta, not in any s-class or something else
