The funny thing is that the Supreme Court ruled that a police office can’t extend a traffic stop to get a k9 out to the stop. So if it takes longer than just giving the ticket like normal to get the K9 out there your lawyer can get anything found with the k9 search thrown out.

@Johnketes54 cops aren’t breaking the law when they apply discretion for petty traffic violations. In many states there are written/documented warning forms used for these cases and they count as a “ stat”

Them reading you your rights doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want after and get away with it, they’re just warning you NOT to say anything that’s self incriminating. “Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law”

@Mihnea Lazăr people say “you have to say “no”” because sometimes the cops will pull you over just to let you know you have expired tags or something, and if you say “I was speeding” then a warning about expired tags quickly becomes an expensive ticket. You say “no”, let them tell you what they pulled you over for, and leave it at that. You don’t wanna tell them something and risk getting a bigger ticket or worse.

They won't just take you at your word Now how about if you were at home all day no witnesses. You have no way to verify that you were not the one on the bike and would be the one responsible And don't think the local cops will go as far as tracking your phone GPS. Its not a TV show or movie.

As a police officer I advise my friends and family to ALWAYS let the cop tell you what he thinks you did and play RESPECTFULLY ignorance. Also if you want to get out of a citation call the court and ask for a different day to stand before the judge due to illness. Police officers usually pick the same couple days for their court appearances so that they aren't constantly going back and forth. So if you change the date they won't show up ( unless you pissed them off) If the officer is not there and you plead not guilty you automatically win regardless of the facts. Now if the officer IS there plead no contest. It's NOT an admission and they cut your fine by up to 65 % for saving the court time.

A little tip for fellow viewers, when stopped like this and asked if you know what you did wrong, the only correct answer is no, and then when getting told that you went over the speed limit, say that you think you held the speed limit as you don't admit to being aware of doing something against the law meaning you can go to a judge and get your speeding ticket removed even though you objectively went over the speed limit a little. Depends on what country you are from, but I think it should work in the US as well.

@Listen Here yeah but he said old plate, as in the old license plate not a decorative plate. Most places I know have specific laws against 2 different license plates because it can cause confusion for emergency workers.

@drvelocci a decorative plate is different than having 2 different license plates. I don’t know anyplace that allows 2 different license plates on a vehicle. Heck, most places I know have a law specifically outlawing it.

Rule 1 never give cops incriminating information when they pull you over. If you didn't say you may have been speeding then you most likely wouldn't of gotten a ticket

Just say no when a cop says “do you know why I stopped you?”. The reason they ask that is to get an admission of guilt. Edit: to all the keyboard attorneys. There is genuinely no reason to risk admitting to a crime. No matter what it is, even just as small as speeding. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever that you should admit to a police officer that you are guilty of committing a crime. It helps nobody but them. A few minutes later he gave me a ticket for an expired registration sticker. No point in trying to play innocent about a registration that expired over a year before.
