I always thought genuine leather shoes like these are expensive because of the original expensive materials used, now I know it's the handmade thing that is worth every penny spent on these shoes. Might never be able to afford them, but I can truly appreciate the skill. Impressive 👏🏻

You can buy used handmade dress shoes that aren't bespoke but would need resoling and restauration and get them restored. A proper restauration will make them as good as new and you can get nice shoes like these for relatively cheap. I found old oxfords in my size on ebay. They did not look good, but after restauration they look as good as new and felt new. I paid ~160 $ for everything. Well worth it.
Vor 5 TageJames Edward
This is what you would call bespoke meaning they make a last specifically in the shape of your foot then make a shoe around the last so bespoke leather dress shoes are certainly super expensive. You can get really great quality leather dress shoes that aren’t bespoke but are made with premium veg tan calf skin leather and and a Goodyear welt which is the best welt especially for repairs and resoling in the future. You can get premium made dress shoes like that for anywhere from $400-$1000 and the best bang for your buck I have found anywhere is called Carmina which is my favorite dress shoe company because the amount of quality you get for the price is the best in the industry IMO.

The craftsmanship is not what amazes me even though it is amazing, it’s the patience this young man has that amazes me. I sure hope he’s making those bespoke dress shoes for a great price and not making them for pennies because the amount of work and craftsmanship in those is top level.

I was stationed in Japan in 1967. One day on leave I was walking though the city and stopped to watch a cobbler hand making shoes just like in this video. I was so impressed I decided to spend some of my drinking money and have a pair made even though I had trouble justifying the expense. Ashamed to admit it now because I paid less than $20 US for mine. The gentleman first made plaster casts of my feet and said they would keep my molds in the shop so I could order more pairs of shoes in the future and they would mail them to me in the states, although I never did order another pair. The shoes I had made looked almost exactly like the ones in this video and they fit like a glove. After getting out of the military I wore them for many years as I climbed the corporate ladder. Sad to say, eventually the soles finally wore out and even though the tops still looked new and instead of getting them resoled... I threw them out. I seem to remember thinking "Heck' I only paid $20 for them, not worth getting them repaired". A decision from my youth I've regretted several times since then... and especially now after watching this video [sigh].

This video brings back memories, when I was kid, growing up in Mexico, my Dad used to bring home, carrying in his shoulders, a cow's hide, or rather the leather, he then would cut it into the shoe forms, it takes a very special skill to trim out the edges of those shoes so that can be glued together and be turned into a shoe or a boot. As they say "stick to your last." I couldn't cut a shoe if my life depended on it. Thank you for what you do.
Vor MonatHIMARS Makes me happy!!!
@James Edward shoe making capital of the Americas world maybe, but trust me the rest of world nada. You do know that cowboy boots aren't that popular in most countries, right?
Vor 7 TageJames Edward
It’s called scyving when they thin the edges to glue them together. What part of Mexico is your family from? I know Guanajuato is best know for it’s leather shoe and boot making in Mexico but there are many cobblers and craftsman throughout all of Mexico.
Vor 8 TageJames Edward
@HIMARS Makes me happy!!! Lmfao you do know what leather is correct? The city of León, Guanajuato in Mexico is considered actually the shoe making capital of the world and the cowboy boot capital of the world because that’s where the leather cowboy boot came from. That’s where cattleranchers would make boots from the cow hides. Many many of our American boots are made in Mexico, companies go out there and open factories or pay factories that are open already to make them and while they definitely use some modern technology, it’s still made completely by hand from cow hides. If you didn’t know that leather comes from cow hide, quality leather, as well as that Suede is literally the exact same thing as leather, it’s usually just the underside of leather or they rough the leather up, then you have a lot to learn about leather and shoes. Different parts of the cow hide creates different qualities of leather and the best most expensive highest quality of any leather shoe period is from under the hide of a horse on the rump and it is called Shell Cordovan. The only other expensive shoes you will find is if they are made from exotic animals.

Automation can speed up inventory, but the handcrafted art and attention to detail is what truly makes these shoes magnificent.
Vor 3 MonatePallizer
@Nocturne 2 u have no idea man. No shoe of the automatic lanes can compete with handcrafted ones. Not only is the detail mostly lost due to efficiency and speed of the machines, but also is a machine NOT capable of chaning parameters like that, making it fit for everyone other than standard shoesizes and lastly in comfort and durabilty. I dare u, spend 150€ on some modern mass produced shoes and then on a handmade one at the manufacturer next door, your automated one will fall apart thrice before the other one

Nah. As long the Glue is high quality and the stitches are strong enough, any shoe can be great and develop a patina.
Vor MonatRifle Eyez
@ordinary name Yeah I'm a spoilsport but I find all this so irritating. I appreciate the talent, I certainly couldn't do it, but it's definitely overdone for the video to be purposefully artsy and ''masterful''. It's like chefs flourishing their hands around when cooking like they're working on the meaning of life and who created the universe, when really they're making something you shove in your mouth to survive. Yes, I'm just being grumpy.
Vor MonatMisterDeluxia
@ordinary name thats just not true unless youre comparing a mass produced product to a equivalent level of quality but made by hand (which is probably underpaid labor then). theres a reasons why f1 cars are hand made. A artisan margarita pizza is so much better than a regular "hand made" fast food one. when you get artists who are good at thier craft they get to know every aspect of the process and they can control them in a way a machine could never.

Checked the maker's website. Pairs range from around $2-3K. Sounds about right considering how much time, effort and expertise goes into each pair. Really great stuff. I hope they are doing well in business. They'd probably last nearly forever too if you take proper care of them. Edit: Due to rampant inflation and the resulting fluctuations in the values of currency across the world, monetary conversion rates at the moment now put the cost at around $1500-2200 USD for a custom pair.

@batchagaloopyTV Why are you making stuff up? Their website is still up and they are still taking orders. That doesn't sound like a closed business to me.
Vor MonatPBJ AND A HIGHFIVE
@Stephen Briggs What kind of a question even is that? For a nice pair of dress shoes, this isn't even close to how expensive they can get, especially for a handcrafted, form-fitted, completely custom pair like this made with high-quality materials from experienced craftsmen. Stuff like this obviously isn't for everyone and isn't suited to all walks of life, but these aren't just a regular pair of sneakers pulled off the shelf at a Footlocker and made via assembly line at a major factory using the cheapest materials. It's obviously a luxury item, but for the people who have the money to spare and who want a custom pair of dress shoes which will last them through the rest of their life these are very reasonably priced. Just because you're ignorant of their actual value or you couldn't justify the expenditure in your own life doesn't mean they aren't worth the price tag.
