Chopin was possibly thinking about the opening of his Opus 21 piano concerto when he wrote this opening. It is indeed very beautiful. There are many examples of how Chopin takes a short phrase of specially intense beauty and reuses it. I think that this is a feature of composers that are very strong on melodies, examples coming to mind being Mozart and Puccini. Their minds are seem full of passing melodies. Others have minds full of passing harmonies, examples coming to mind being Beethoven and Rachmaninoff. This is a personal view. I can hear them in my mind. That's it. I'm neither a musicologist nor a music critic. Just a musician, and an amateur at that. Anybody know what I mean this?

Franz Schubert,  Frédéric Chopin and all the great masters of the romantic era bring tears of enjoyment and at the same time of sorrow to my eyes.  Their music that transports, elevates the soul produces the sad impression that the Muses have abandoned us.  WE ARE NOW ORPHANS.

@mcrettable Beethoven at the last of his life, he compose new scores for his age. The people didn't like this new scores from Beethoven. But Beethoven broke this sames things of his age. I want to say that every composer have his things, Chopin is a excellen composer, he plays with the rythm. Jazz comes to africa. The african people who worked in USA at the field sang songs when they was working. The name of these songs are the work songs, these songs have a moving rythm. After, they can go to the church, there they sang songs with instruments, Gospel song. After these, Gospels became to differents types of jazz, one type of jazz became rock other type to pop... Go and reread my statement again before start any conservation. I'm very sure about what I'm talking. Bach is a classical music composer in Baroque period, so was Chopin in romantic period. Perhaps you are the one who is so ignorant. Just end this incredibly nonsensical topic and enjoy a wonderful cello sonata by Chopin, a composer from Romantic period.

The music is from the romantic period. Ignorant people simplify this and call everything that isn't pop and rock to be called "classical"

Vor 7 years
fortezimo
fortezimo

Classical music has been divided into several periods, which is, as I believe, eligible to label composers such as Bach, Haydn or Tchaikovsky as classical music composers as well since they still belong to the genre called classical music. One is likely to refer the music as a whole, not a particular period. :)

Vor 7 years
Felix de Villiers
Felix de Villiers

When people ask me wheher Iike classical music I say 'yes' out of laziness. But the term becomes pretty meaningless. For me it covers everything from Bach to Stockhausen, and Stockhausen is not classical. The Classical composers are Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven though the Frrench classify Beethoven as a Romantic .I think of him as classical as they way he works out his material is based on Haydn and Mozart. There is a big jump then to Chopin's Ballades and Schumann's Kreisleriana. Schubert somewhere halfway. For the commercialised notion of great music I use the term Klassikal. "Gone with the Wind" is considered a classical movie. The word changes its meaning.
