Having done my commercial training years ago at Orlando-Sanford (Back in the days of Delta Connection Academy), Executive is only a few miles north of the North-South runways at MCO (Orlando International), and the tower at Executive is thus under immense pressure from the team at MCO, as well as the Orlando Approach/Departures team just downstairs at Executive, to not mess up flights in and out of MCO. It's not a tower you want to piss off with such actions. Had this been back in the mid-2000s, I might have suggested that it was some of the China Eastern students which DCA taught (as some of them were *really* bad at understanding English and had little drive to learn until C.E. executives threatened to fire them and send them back to Wuhan (as C.E. was paying for their training)).

Every pilots worts nightmare: 1. All engine failure 2. Fire in the air 3. “ I’ve got a number for you to call”

Doing this in sim is stressful enough.

The mistake occurred in the very beginning .... ATC said “cleared for takeoff and turn west bound”... though the direction was garbled and didn’t even show in the text. The pilot repeated back “cleared for takeoff and turn left bound”, which was also garbled and not corrected by ATC. 10 seconds after he took off, he’d already penetrated the Class B, though who knows what went on for the next 5 minutes.

At least he'd be okay if he crashed because he was so far behind the airplane... Kudos to the controller making sure he was okay and to calm the pilot down a bit before letting him go. Sounded like a nervous student pilot on solo cross-country.

I admire the controller for how he handled the situation...didn't run into any assumptions, and didn't make the pilot feel any worse than he had to. This guy was a top notch controller.

I'm not a pilot, but I've watched enough of these videos to know that "possible pilot deviation" is ATCese for "You done screwed the pooch, boy", but what actually happens during that phone call? Pilot loses his license? Gets fined? Made to clean all the restrooms in the tower for a week?

Tower handled this really well does reinforce my opinion that all ATC/Tower should at least have basic flight instruction so they know what pilots are up against or should be competent at.

Maybe I didn't follow his path correctly but I think on his read back for takeoff he may have repeated "left-bound" instead of West Bound and maybe that's why he flew South instead of West? It seemed like he was having a bit of radio issues before takeoff so it may not have been BS Or maybe he just got lost 🤔

I feel sorry for this guy. The person who failed here is his CFI. He was clearly not ready for a solo flight at a towered airport squished up against class bravo. His mind was racing and panicking before he got his takeoff clearance.

The controller said "Fly Westbound" and 114FA understood "Fly LEFTbound" and the controller fatally missed the pilot's erroneous readback. Very detailed simple error with horrible consequences.

As nice as all this sounds...he's in for some trouble with the FAA.

The deviation was partially the controller's fault for not listening correctly to the pilot's read back. When the controller said, "Fly westbound", the pilot read back, "Fly leftbound." The pilot did exactly as he thought the controller instructed.

The B airspace is right there, and anyone who flies out of there should know that. Executive tower doesn’t have authority to clear a pilot into the B space. And “leftbound” isn’t a thing.

I flew 114FA about 15 years ago! Used to belong to California Flight Academy.

At least he didn't respond to the number with "I'm not ready to copy. I'm FLYING!"

Colossal verbal ass kicking incoming for 114FA.

That day my GPS took me to Orlando Executive instead of Orlando International Airport... and almost l missed my flight...

I think it is pretty obvious what happened here. The pilot is inexperienced and not a native English speaker. The somewhat mumbled word "westbound" sounded to him life "left%&/", and he replied in a confused way, which the controller missed. Once in the air, he did what he believed the controller had asked him to do, turn left. Then he got "radio problems", most probably inadvertently switched frequency, as has happened to many pilots in rental aircraft. The one thing that can be held against the pilot is: as a VFR pilot departing an airport so close to class Bravo airspace, he MUST make himself familiar with that airspace before getting into the cockpit, and the "left turn" he understood should have been more than enough reason to ask the controller "verify you want me to turn into class Bravo". Anyway, it's good that nothing happened except for the airspace violation. Should be a learning experience for pilot and controller: pilot, make yourself familiar with the airspace and ask when unsure, and controller, when communicating with a student pilot or beginner who is also non-native in English, listen closely to the readbacks.

From listening to several of these recordings I’ve come to the conclusion most air traffic controllers are half drunk jack wagons, but this guy was actually pretty decent.

If and when I screw up I want him as a controller. What a calm, clear and in control attitude.

I flew out of KORL years ago and he sounds familiar. Once a plane flew aimlessly into the KORL D space and he called the plane and said something like, “May I ask where you’re going, since, you know, you’re in my airspace?”

This guy heard the Las Vegas exchange where the guy broke Bravo Airspace, just said "NO" to ATC and nothing happened to him, and thought hmm, all I have to say is no. At least this guy wasn't an arrogant prick like Las Vegas dunce. These are strange times indeed, where it's becoming evident that laws are really not applicable as long as you have the money / power.

So iiuc he read back "left down[wind]" in place of "westbound", so tower thought he was going from 250 (runway 25) to 270, and pilot thought he was going from 250 to 160 crosswind leg to 70 downwind leg, which is about what he did. Then he turned left (maybe base leg to stay in a left pattern?), saw N1142L in front of him, and turned right into the "airshow" part of the flight.

Runway 25 at KORL is right pattern only, and he’s flying a plane registered to a flight school there. So if that’s what he was doing, he isn’t very familiar with the airport.

I have flown into korl and had this fella. Makes your day out that much nicer when atc are like him.

You dont say the word "Take-off" until ATC clears you for take-off (they say the word first) and you collate. When letting ATC know you are ready, you say "Ready for departure"

I never thought about that, but it makes sense. It reduces the possibility for misunderstanding.

Sounds to me like he went on "autopilot" (figuratively speaking, just acting out of habit) because he was dealing with a radio issue, and that "autopilot" decided to turn left crosswind while climbing to 1,000 feet. I can see how a sub-1000 Class B shelf just left of the runway would catch a pilot out like that if he was unprepared and distracted at the same time.

Well his instructor may hear the dreaded words of "709 Ride".... 🤣🤣

Lol welcome to orlando.......Kissimmee almost never and I mean never uses runway 6 as it butts up to the 900 foot shelf of the class B, literally can be blowing 20 knot winds out of the east and they will never use runway 6 as too many people have busted the class B while departing runway 6

I don't know anything about flying or ATC stuff but from what I've learned from this channel, you really fucked up if someone has to make a phone call.

It's amazing how every one of these pilot deviations start with absolute garbage radio calls. If you can't even make radio calls or use proper terminology, stay on the ground.
