From Rummy's Corner video about the fight: “One thing I’ve learned after years of being a boxing fan, is that greatness sometimes manifests in different ways and varying capacities. Buster Douglas may not be remembered as an all time great heavyweight, but on that one fateful night in Tokyo, he truly was greatness personified.”

Vor 4 Monate

The stars aligned, Douglas had the reach, the jab and the fortitude unlike any fight he fought before. Mike Tyson brought the best out in Douglas, and Tyson was obviously not focused in his preparation. Still, a great fight by the huge underdog Buster who could have quit after being almost knocked out in Round 8, but he didn't fight scared. He sensed he could win and the longer the fight went on, his confidence grew after being saved by a long count and the bell. The rest is history. Greatest upset in boxing history.

Buster didn't make that mistake that night. It was a great great fight. Nobody should feel that it was not. Both boxers really performed well. I was 11, and yeah it really rocked the world. Back when everyone watched boxing. Haha in my mind at the time the only unbeatable person in the world was the Highlander. Van Damme would've been right up there though :)

2:36 Douglas last combination was thrown so beautifully. And was thrown was the intent to knock Tyson out. You can actually see the sweat splatter from the hit.

Yes, it was an interesting match, because Tyson brought his usual form to send Douglas to the ground but relatively late in the 8th round, despite the fact that Tyson's face was already pretty smashed, but Douglas knocked out Tyson by KO in the 10th round and won the whole match, which was also not at all characteristic of Mike Tyson, who was in his prime at that time in his sporting career

Those combinations punches along with the reach (Mike couldn't get away) has got to be one of the greatest comebacks in the last 50yrs. BUT it's almost after that Win Buster lost his will to fight! That Night it was like Buster had a little Voice in his ear saying Win for me.

@BearFlagRebel I might not be remembering this correctly but I thought Buster's mom past some time before the fight and he considered postponing it. When people "do it for (mom or whoever) it's like they're digging deep within to elevate their game. Just a belief I have.

@See You On A Dark Night People made bets that night what round Tyson would KO Douglas. Thought it was over when Tyson knocked down Douglas in the 8th. Then those flurry of punches by Douglas took everyone by surprise and everyone came out of their seats before Tyson hit the canvas in the 10th in the bar that night. No way. Unbelievable. Then everyone was in agreement. It was a great unexpected fight.

You can see from the opening few seconds of the footage the Tyson wasn't mentally prepared. He was usually mega-hyped before entering the ring. Douglas on the other hand was highly prepared and highly motivated - fair play to him.

Buster getting up after that shot was something out of a movie. I will say that he got a slow count, but still most guys were asleep after a shot from Tyson. And Tyson was a warrior for getting up too. He was done and the ref did the right thing calling it.

How on earth did Douglas get up from that uppercut. Landed on his back, which almost always means they don't get up. He arguably should have been counted out, but either way incredible to even get back onto his feet and then recover for the next round to then KO Tyson

these 3 minutes don't show the perfection of Douglas. this is one of the greatest heavyweight champignonship fights ever. there was no luck involved. And Tyson wasn't in a worse shape than in 37 fights before he met Douglas. Opponent No 38 was simply the 1st master he has faced inside a ring.
