We discuss some of Burnley Football Club's history in this video. We begin with the club's location, home ground, and founding story. We then discuss the club's nickname (the Clarets), crest, and important events. And we close with discussing noteworthy players, managers, and stats/records.
The video is not all-encompassing but it hopefully provides some interesting information about Burnley FC.

Firstly, whilst a largely enjoyable video, King George was not the king of England. He was the king of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as a few other places. We do not play soccer in the UK, we play football. The give away is in the clubs title. Burnley Football Club. The other give away is the fact the game is played with the feet!!!

It's nice to get some notice over the pond but there are some mistakes; Crest- The bees on the badge is not "a nod to the old end of the ground (stand) called the bee hole" (end). The name of bee hole end and the bees on the crest derive from the fact that large areas of today's Lancashire and West Yorkshire were mainly built up because of the Cotton Mill industry, which came about in the industrial revolution. [Side Note: In Manchester's town hall and around the city there are bee symbols in and on council buildings, signs etc] The Lion has nothing to do with the King...( the badge already had the Lion many years before)... The badge was and is now a likeness of the towns crest which has been around a lot longer than BFC. The clubs badge was the towns crest until the 1969-70 season, but it made a comeback in 2009-10 which was the year Burnley played there first season in the Premier league, and it was the 50th anniversary of winning the Division 1 league in 1959-60. Due to both factors, the football strip was very much the same as the 59-60 strip including the towns crest. The following season the Latin was replaced due to a small dispute with the town council, resulting in the club wanting to 'update it slightly' so it differs. Paul Gascoigne only 6 times and Ian Wright 15 times.. old has beens... Wade Elliott? scored the goal at Wembley which promoted Burnley into the premier league in the 2008-09 season. Brian Jensen? Robbie Blake? Martin Dobson? Ray Pointer? Brain Miller?- far better mentions.

Thanks so much Martin and I love a good discussion as well. I appreciate you checking out my videos and for the kind words. And the St. Pauli scarf is one of my favorites. Don't get too many clubs embracing the color brown but they own it!

Sorry, about the: "The Lion has nothing to do with the King" I thought you were referring to the king watching the FA Cup final in 1914... but you said Prince Albert visited in 1886, which is completely different... The sources that we both use might be wrong or 50/50 for some things unfortunately, as I have read else where the town's crest was granted in 1862, which is fundamentally the same today (including the damn lion haha). (http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Burnley I thought I'd give a shout out to a few things as I really enjoy your videos, and there's nothing better than an "academic" argument :P haha all the best and keep it up! P.S I like the FC sankt Pauli scarf!

Hey Martin. Thanks so much for watching the video and I apologize for any mistakes made. To address some of your points: - Crest: Before I mentioned the bee hole end, I said the bees were a reference to the town's hard-working attitude. That was my attempt at what you highlighted as the area is famous for working incredibly hard (like bees) which came about during the Industrial Revolution. I could have communicated that better. Additionally, both my sources for the crest history (https://thebeautifulhistory.wordpress.com/clubs/burnley/ & https://thefootballcrestindex.com/blogs/premier-league-clubs/burnley-fc) said that the lion in the crest came from the Prince's visit to the ground in 1886. I'm not saying you're incorrect about the lion coming from the town crest, I'm just highlighting that these sources indicated the lion was derived from the royal visit. All your other info about the crest is fascinating, thanks for sharing. - Players: Admittedly, I did not do a good job in this section. I should have highlighted players that we more important to the club's history instead of players that were more famous. I appreciate you highlighting these players that were more deserving of a mention for the club. Thanks again for watching and for highlighting these things I missed. Best of luck to the Clarets this season!

Good work. I would like to clarify that the badge Burnley currently uses is actually very close to the original one which was a modification of the town's coat of arms. In the 1970s the badge was changed to a more ornate design. In 2010 it was decided that Burnley FC would wear the more simplified version again to commemorate 50 years since last winning the English Football League. (Also the River Brun is pronounced to rhyme with pun, gun, stun...)

And the Bee Hole End terrace was named because there was a former coal mine towards that end called the Bee Hole. I think the stand started out life as a waste tip from the colliery which was used by supporters to get a good view of matches. Eventually it was decided to construct a proper stand there and the stand kept the name the Bee Hole End.

Thanks for watching and adding these clarifications. I'll try to remember that River Brun pronunciation for the future 👍

Great video, just one minor correction. Had Burnley lost the Orient game, they would not have been the first founding member to drop out of the Football League. Burnley's nearest rivals, Accrington Stanley (situated in Accrington, a town between Burnley and Blackburn) had to drop out the league due to financial issues in the 1960's. Accrington have now climbed back up to the football league in the 00's and are now on the verge of promotion to League One of the EFL. Thad Burnley lost, they would however have been the first club to be officially relegated from the football league with the introduction of promotion and relegation to and from the Conference.

Yes, they would have been. First club ever to be relegated out the league officially, I think before that season teams just folded and were replaced by a non-league club. Some digging may be required on that one.

Although I think Burnley would have been the first former League champions to have been relegated out of the league.
