In this video we sit down with Tomohiro Endo, the legendary Japanese composer of the soundtrack for the movie Bruce Lee G.O.D. Endo-san is a huge Bruce Lee fan, nerd and a jeet kune do dojo full of fun. We talk about his many Bruce Lee music projects, his eye-raising collections, his fascinating story of composing music for the Bruce Lee G.O.D film and a whole lot more. Grab your nunchucks, and get ready for a load of fun.
Bruce Lee is a legend full stop. As a young boy I had my first introduction to Bruce in a crowded movie theater in Portland, Oregon in the late 1970's. My friends and I saw 'Enter the Dragon' at a Bruce Lee film festival and I was blown away. Soon after we were all throwing punches and kicks, belting out blood-curdling 'kiai' screams and making our own nunchucks out of wooden dowels and rope. Legends never die.
Bruce Lee G.O.D is the Japanese production Bruce Lee movie released in 2000 that combines scenes from the incomplete movie Game of Death, recreation scenes of Bruce's life during the filming of Game of Death and interviews with movie staff, colleagues and more. Tomohiro Endo composed the soundtrack for this film. Prior to Endo-san, Joseph Koo was the composer for many Bruce Lee movies including 'The Way of the Dragon', and Lalo Shifrin for the 'Enter the Dragon'. All legends!

This was really cool getting an interview with Endo Tomohiro. But it needs to be said that Endo did the music for the first version of Bruce Lee In G.O.D. For anyone who doesn't know, Bruce Lee G.O.D. came in two versions: The 2000 version and the superior 2003 Special Edition version that had much better editing of Bruce Lee's Game of Death footage, better sound design and a completely different music score that was better than the 2000 version (no offense to Endo Tomohiro). The 2003 version also had legendary Hong Kong action star Yuen Biao hosting the movie. Not many people outside of Japan know of the 2003 Special Edition version of Bruce Lee In G.O.D. but they should because it was much better put together than the first version put out in 2000. Too bad both have been long out of print. Thanks for the upload! Maybe you can find the people who were involved with the 2003 version and do a video with them? Thanks again!

In Japanese, Bruce Lee is spelled ブルース・リー. When I was a child in 70s, being too young to know who he actually was, I thought his name was ブルー・スリー, or Blue Three, like Kamen Rider V3. 😆

I freakin' love this PvG. Thank you for interviewing Endo-san. Endo-san is one of the coolest and passionate Bruce Lee fans around. So glad we got to meet him through your YouTube video. I am also a long time Bruce Lee fan. Yes, Bruce Lee is real! I have fond memories growing up as a kid watching all the his movies on weekends with my siblings and getting myself out of make believe fights.

"As you think, so shall you become" Bruce Lee. Endo-san is a character. It was interesting to hear his thoughts on scoring the music and to learn his process. Well done Peter, a story well told! 👍😎

I love how music can set the tone of the movie, enhance the emotions of the moment, advance the plot, provide transitional elements. I'm a huge fan of John Williams and his memorable film scores. This was an interesting look at Tomohiro Endo's work (and shoes and arsenal)! Thanks, PVG.
