This kind of music reaches inside and touches your very soul and sometimes tears escape from your eyes. Bonnie and Ruthie Foster, whom I plan to seek out more of, did more than justice to this John Prine masterpiece. Fly high, John! You left us with so much to inspire us.

omg, tears. This was beautiful and moving.

first hearing Ruthie Foster wow life has blessed us again with such talent! This an enormous favorite song by Bonnie for me. This is one of those songs that gives me chills and brings an old man to tears! Reminds me of my Grandfather who would come in from the fields of his farm and sit in his chair by the window looking out at his world for hours without talking just deep in his thoughts! The line about how can a person have nothing to say. He was a WW1 veteran and as I matured and learned of the trenches I don't know of what he thought but I'm sure he deserved his thoughts!

Inspirational and uplifting in equal measure, thank you from the UK where we are a little lacking in this brand of nectar. Perhaps the best up and coming UK band of this genre would be Winnebago with their Cheating on your Heart and Bikini State singles...worth a listen on You Tube.

Love Bonnie. Still, I would rather hear John Prine sing this song. He puts emphasis on certain words that make it pure rural country. The way people really feel and talk there.

Phenomenally moving. I love the way Ruthie walks off at the end like she just finished doing business at the bank. Must be nice to have that kind of natural talent.

John Prine RIP Love this version.Beautiful ladies.
Vor 7 MonateLou Salute
John Prine wrote this beautiful song when he was a very young man .. that he could so perfectly describe the midlife crisis of a woman is a testament to his brilliance. I know Bonnie made this a hit .. but I bought the original Prine album in the 70s .. every track a gem. So it's John Prine version for me.

How cool was it that she gave credit to the fact that Ruthie didn't even get a chance to rehearse with the band and the cat who wrote the charts? What a cool women. Awesome musician.

I've heard a lot of songs by guys about girls over the years. But this is the first one I ever heard written by a guy from a woman's point of view, and gave her a voice. It's become almost an anthem for female artists. And it's one of Prine's earliest songs.I'm sure he has a lot of angels around him right now.

Ah yea Steve man Rip Bruton always loved talking shop about tone with you.. that was when Austin was real cool. I passed Bonnie on the steps of Jorges one night and I had to got the boys room and kicked my self for not turning around on the stairs ever since she said High to me just a no body on the stairs and I knew it was her.. Whew we and Yea I know shes married cuz at another place Gureros was going to the RR again and there was her Husband Danny from Caddy Shack and he saw me spot him and he looked at me and gave me a quick be cool shake of the head no dont say nothing and Bonnie and Steve were at the table when I came back out and I smiled and nodded at them and kept walking to not bother em. Bonnie is let me tell yall Cool I was talking shop with Bruton one day and he told me outside Rays Dumble will mod me a twin for 1500 bucks.. I said are you gonna be here like here for awhile another hour or less ???? He said yea why ? I said im going to get my other twin and ill be right back with part of the money and the amp in 45 min he started laughing and said I mean for me not just anyone and I dont know when Ill be back out there I said I dont care take it anyway and it tickled Bruton. He said na I dont know how long it will be he said before im out on west coast again so you might be waitin too long he said. I wound up with a Dumble Bonnie might dig its a 50 watt Bassman .. "Ive put boys younger then you in the electric chair Danny didnt have too felt I owed it too them..? Judge Smails

I love the Tedeshi version of Angel from Montgomery, the flute solo and electric guitar make for a super soulful version of the song. Tedeshi has always had "That thing" that makes for a great artist. Wish I could go to her show in Detroit, Michigan but even if we could go to a show, I have no way to get there. So enjoy everyone. Tell me how it is.🎶💜🎵

Taking NOTHING away for the incredible Ms. Raitt, but the REAL musicians are in the band. My daughter was a music major, and it's very hard: not only did she have all the regular core courses, but she had all her practices, rehearsals and performances - it's very similar to being a college athlete. John Prine: there aren't words for how your music affects me. RIP, and say Hi to Jimi and Janis!

I first heard her perform this song about 6 years ago, on Road Tested. Asked a co-worker, who wasn't really a fan of Bonnie Raitt to listen. He didn't want to. I said that "if you don't like this song, you don't have a soul". He looked at me funny and said those were strong words, but he listened. Then soon smiled, and told me "that's a John Prine cover, and yeah, you're right".
