@Joshua Dixon Twitch is gonna have the same issue soon probably. Copyright is gonna be an issue for everything unless the law is changed. YT is just a bit more aggressive in enforcing

While I can see that a lot of the longer term viewers are upset with the move, I myself found you because you went to youtube....and I've become a member already. Youtube has tons of problems, I know. It affects a lot of youtube streamers and regular content creators. Hopefully with you joining in on the complaints it helps youtube fix their dumb shit. In the end, glad ya came to youtube because I'm enjoying your content!

It feels like Youtube is in the position to make a crazy move in this space. If they allow a more formal system for reacting to Youtube content. For example: If a streamer reacts to a video a portion (or perhaps) the entire population of the audience was added to the view counter. Idk, maybe there's deeper legal stuff preventing this but it feels like if Youtube controls both the streamers and the content their reacting to they could make some big moves to get a head of Twitch.

This would require intelligence and effort/money that they don't need to use.

But what about the ads on the video. That's where the money is really. Realistically if Ludwig watched the ads and added that to the video than maybe i can see a way but I doubt that being viable since it would take away from stream significantly.

Pretty sure if there wasnt any legal issues with that YouTube would had done this years ago

As someone who's been watching you for a year on youtube and very rarely on twitch, I really enjoy the switch personally it feels a lot easier to catch streams since you'll always be on my front page compared to the side bars. I think the extension works wonders and I catch myself watching a lot more compared to twitch, It's nice to hear you voicing your issues and opinions though, Youtube for sure has so much more room to grow and I hope they can see that with them trying to branch out into the streaming world.

I think everyone should watch Tom Scott's video on YouTube's copyright system before engaging in discussion about it. Taught me a lot of things about how it REALLY works and why YouTube has REALLY put into place the system. YouTube's system is clearly broken in a lot of ways, but without a doubt it has saved thousands of content creators (including children) from getting their asses sued to the moon by companies.

A few questions - 1. Do Otto and yourself ever plan on releasing this for other content creators? 2. Do you have any plans to do some form of mobile intergration? I don't think creating a YouTube client is bannable unless it's in the same vein as some that provide YouTube Premium features. Thank you to both Otto and yourself for this amazing work! You're really making YouTube a much better streaming platform.

the only way they have a chance of recreating it on a mobile platform they'd probably need help from a team that already does it for example YouTube Vanced which is android only which a lot of chat isn't really using in the first place but that also blocks ads and skips sponsors etc.. so they don't really have a way of doing so

@Omega extensions aren't supported on mobile devices Firefox I'm not too sure about but I think chrome mobile has a no extension policy

@SiO Firefox has extensions but you are limited to like 7 of them that have been whitelisted

Here's an idea that would fix this issue. Youtube can create a system where it would redirect all your viewers to a video you want to react to, while having a separate window or popup of your stream. This way you aren't streaming any copyrighted videos. Thumbs up so ludwig can see this:)

It’s really admirable what Lud and the team are doing. He could easily say welp sucks to suck. 🤷‍♂️ But he’s trying to help everything be as seamless as he possibly can and he tries to keep us updated constantly. Again really admirable. 🙏🏼

There are so many signs for me that ludwig is one of the most sweet people i have ever seen

its just so annoying because i get not wanting people to just watch videos or only play videos for their whole streams, but you should be able to watch something and give commentary of it on stream without getting banned/suspended/timed out for it. especially since react channels exist on youtube already so youd think streams would be treated the same

I think streams are a little bit different from react videos cuz they're live so not a lot of editing or cuts from the og video can be done. Sorta have to make sure that the commentary the streamer is adding is transformative enough since they're most likely gonna show close 100% of the video/content. Not saying that lud's commentary/content isn't transformative but I do understand why this copyright system exists despite being flawed

Following what Ollie said, you can get around copyright in most walks of life if you're transformative enough. This applies to me as a photographer and lud as a streamer all the same.

Something sure, everything? No. Anime shouldn't be allowed since they hardwork on the show, they get to decide whether they want others to watch for free or no.

Same with music videos

They are treated the same though, not every video triggers the content system. From what I understand it depends on the settings of the creators, lud watched tons of videos without getting any problems. The issue is that you don't know before clicking on a video.

I think youtube should have a "YT LIVE" with a subpage at the top, with separate UI for users to be able to search for livestreams. I almost never watch livestreams on YT (except for a few of Rekieta Law I watched during Rittenhouse Trial) because I don't even know they're on. I would also like to search for livestreams easily. Unless YT fixes this I bet most casual YT watchers won't watch too many livestreams.

On PC, this is kinda a thing, with live subbed channels showing at the top (requires proper refresh to update tho). And if you want to filter live videos only on your homepage or in your search results, you can just click Live (at least I can, maybe cuz I watch a lot of yt streams). But I see your point of making it more accessible

Funny, I had never heard of Rekieta, so I searched him. First result: Attorney Tom (who i watch every upload from) JUST put a video up about him potentially getting sued for streaming and doing commentary over another yt channel’s live stream of court feeds. Poor guy. Interesting law situation though, hope he doesn’t actually get sued… or i hope he wins on what should be obvious fair use of that video that should already be public domain… but it’s not always that straightforward. Copyright law is still catching up with this Streaming stuff lol

Lud doesn't have to do any of this, he could just use vanilla YT and stream his hours but no, he actively put tons of effort into his channel and makes sure that his stream is the best it can be and that's why he is and likely always will be successful

Honestly, the only way I kept up with you was through YouTube, and now, here you are. In my opinion, this has been even more entertaining, especially noticing you adapt to this new challenge. I think it is more honorable and captivating that you are doing this and you're a trail blazer for others. Not just to go to YouTube, but to be a better streamer in general. I just wanted to thank you for being willing to put so much time and effort into an extension that is really just rgb color values on a screen. I just got the extension today so I can't say what my experence with it is, but it's really nice to see someone that is willing to fix the shortcomings of a product, not just the things that work and get the press.

I love the YouTube streams. YouTube has vastly superior discoverability and it actually notifies me when you're live. I've been watching since the early Twitch Jeapordy days and have caught probably more than a third of the streams I've ever watched of yours since the switch

One reason I uninstalled the extension was because it broke the chat in other streams I watch here on youtube. Not sure if you're aware of this issue or are able to recreate it, but it's definitely something to look into. Also, if the extension worked on any youtube stream instead of just yours that would be awesome!

Been here since subathon and I’m not going anywhere! I loved watching twitch Lud and I love watching YouTube lud. the extension and all the care about the changes are just extra benefits that I’m happy to reap but are by no means necessary. thank you to Lud, Otto, and everyone else on the team for trying to make it as good as possible and I honestly think people are being dumb if they’re mad about it

I think the thing I miss the most was being able to use my prime, because I already had amazon prime, so I can just freely use it on twitch. I always used my prime on lud, but I can't really justify making another expense (even if it is just 5 dollars) becoming a member. I also really miss the sense of community Lud's twitch chat had, it was much easier to reply and create conversations amongst each other in chat on twitch.

I used to watch your youtube videos daily but I never really go on twitch. But now that you've made the switch I'm catching streams so much more frequently and I love it

I think one of the things that would set youtube streaming out for much more success would be simply a live badge next to the channels username in the recommended page and when you click on videos. I often miss streams because of this, and I think many more people on the platform would join the stream this way. I heard this recommendation from another commenter a few months back.

I hope youtube addresses that, it must be some issue within youtubes copyright checking system I imagine. I know it takes a lot to get youtube to listen sometimes, so hopefully you find a way and they do

as a german, it took me long while to find out what channel he meant xD... I usually don't watch streams, twitch, youtube community content, influencers whatever... BUT i extremely appreciate the openness and realness that is presented in this video. keep it up!

I'm not a super active chatter, wasn't on twitch still aren't, so I'm not really the demo that was "affected" by the move. To be honest I much prefer the YouTube livestream player over Twitch. Being able to rewind if you missed a funny bit or get some quick clarification is so great! Also it feels like runs smoother, like you can watch streams at their native quality without hiccups, Twitch always seemed to be more "internet intensive". I'm glad he's being so open with his experience so far, hopefully that carries on!

I think the buggest problem with the content after switching is with the videos on the main channel. The chat obviously doesn't display all of the emotes that people can use through the extension, which means that when i watch a video and something happens, instead of the chat filling up with fitting images in the form emotes, it's just a wall of text in place of the emotes. There is no constructive way to say this, but watching a scary thing, and seeing the chat fill up THE WORD "MonkaW" is a completely immersion-breaking experience and the content on the channel is much worse off because of it

All of these changes (and future mentioned) sound great! After being a 18/19 month sub on twitch it really saddened me that I would loose the badge and recognition of supporting Lud, also chat on YT was painful to be a part of but still watched every once in a while since he’s our Golden Boy, now it’ll feel better to talk to chat and Lud and it all sounds like it will get better from now on, hope to be on streams more often now and can’t wait for future content. :)

I'm glad you're working on making the experience better for you and for those used to twitch. Personally I prefer to keep things on Youtube but I've dabbled with twitch so I get it. Hope you don't get completely disgruntled by how harsh the algorithms are on YouTube, learn to work with it. Learn to make great things with it. Be creative. I know you made the jump because of the money (obviously) but I hope you'll work to become the best streamer on YouTube. Hope you have a steady contact with YouTube as well so they sort some of these things out. Like the chat, come on!

Hey I'm not one to typically comment on videos and stuff but I just wanna say that the amount of care effort and everything you put into streaming/recording is astounding and honestly inspiring(not trying to plug just wanna say stuff so ignoreif ya want😂😂)I've made like 5 yt/twitch channels to which I ended up deleting all the videos and stuff cuz well yeah but about 3ish months ago I watched your so you wanna be a streamer video or something along those lines and its been my dream job since I was like 8 but I just kept pushing it back like nah but after that video I said FUCK IT and after getting inspiration from you and a few other people (NGL mostly you for streaming) in about just under a month in a half I'm affiliated which is no means big buck time but yeah point being is thank you for all the content you make and how much you care about our experience on here and while watching your vids thank you😁

Only real complaint I have with YouTube streams is I cant picture In picture on iOS, idc about the bans and stuff as much cause honestly, its what gonna end up happening on all platforms

i'm not gonna lie, i was most excited for your extension because i thought it was going to be a sort of public roll out to better the overall experience of viewing streams on youtube. Letting my greediness and unappreciative-ness show through for a second i'm disappointed it's only for your channel at the same time im happy for your innovation. I hope it's in the cards for either a public roll out or some sort of cooperation from youtube to make it mainstream. You don't owe us anything, but if it's an effort to improve the youtube streaming experience over all i feel that entails a public usage of the program, where as single use really implies better viewing of your stream only which you are totally entitled to but is disappointing for those of us excited about the potential benefit of the extension you've had created. Love your content, truly no hard feelings.
