@Mumbler Inc. because it was another Noble House in Carthage who rules in Carthage's Senat wanted to rule all Carthage instead of Barca's House (Hannibal Family) so they didnt support Hannibal in his war only with few money, men and ships. and Hannibal attacked Rome because Rome was the first to attack Syracuse in the first punic war and destroyed the carthage fleet in the mediterranean see and took all Sicilia from Carthage. I don't care much for Hanno but I do understand why some people back then would support his statements, dude made some (but not all) good points, if Hannibal is crushing the Romans left and right, why does he need more troops? The obvious answer is "because he has to finish the war" but in their minds, they may think "what if Hannibal wants more forces under his command so that he does a coup against the senate?" Caesar style Especially when the Barcid family already had a lot of influence and popularity

I find it so utterly fascinating that these reactions sums up games on the ladder in whatever strategy game you can think of. Player 2 has an ''idea'' of how the game should be played and gets demolished by the better player 1, confronted with Player 1 not playing along Player B's ''idea'' of the game, Player 2 gets mad and angry. You think reality and the weight of possible death would act like some sort of counterweight yet through history we are shown again and again that we are at all times only human. Oh how to be a soldier under Player 2 and die because the player couldn't be arsed that particular day and literally goes ''rush B''

@Total War Timelapses True people always highlight romes loses but forget the times they completely thrashed their enemies. I've been following the series since its debut in 2018 and this is probably the first major battle won by the Romans. It may be still early, but one of my favorite battles of the 2nd Punic War is "The battle of Metaurus River", where the other brother of Hanibal, Hasdrubal Barca is defeated and killed in action by an army led by two roman Consuls. His head, then was thrown to Hanibal's camp to low is morale. This was a world war by ancient standards. i hope you are going to cover it. As always thank you for your work.

We always hear about the big battles during the Punic Wars so it's refreshing to learn more about the minor ones that never get covered. Thanks
Vor yearTotal War Timelapses
Yeah legit before this video, I didn't even know that Carthage fought in Sardinia I thought they permanently lost it after the first war and didn't bother sending troops to it in the second war since Sicily and Spain were more important
Vor 9 MonateJosh B
Agreed. It offers valuable context into the events of the war
Vor yearPiemme Emme
Wonderful. I have no other words for this excellent series. The best and most accurate historical series I have ever seen. A lot more instructive than many history books on the Punic wars. Regards from Sardinia ;)

Wow, thank you! Big shout to Sardinia. Wonderful place to visit!

Hannibals cunning: hiding troops on an open field Scipios cunning: faking a battle formation for several days, then pressing the weak points Torquetus cunning: *inhales* COWARD!

Hey, if it works!
Vor yearRichard Palujo
@HistoryMarche Thank you! Great video as always. :)
Vor yearHistoryMarche
Haha, that made me laugh!
Vor yearThePirateOrc
It's fascinating that over 2000 years ago history is still preserved and can be told, to know and see these events in great detail is truly amazing.
Vor yearskun406
Or they just made it up, still a great watch 😆
Vor yearAnthony Simmons
This is without a doubt the best series on the second punic war i have ever seen. I thought i was already a Hannibal expert but wow, have i learned so much more!!!
Vor yearSpokój i opanowanie
I would even say that this is the best historical series at all. 2nd Punic War described like it happened 2 weeks ago on Twitter not over 2 thousands years ago.
Vor yearmetalpsyche82
As a Sardinian and long standing follower of this channel I cannot but be super excited with this episode, where my island finally gets on the map and becomes protagonist. It is so cool to see it feature in one of HM videos! And I wanna also say that I have been to the Cornus' (Columbaris) archeological site. It was pretty awesome. Sardinia is the region with the most archeological sites in the world.
Vor yearShock Wave
@HistoryMarche When will you finish the series?
Vor Monatmetalpsyche82
@HistoryMarche cool, man!! Glad to hear that!!!!
Vor yearHistoryMarche
Thank you for watching. I'm working on episode 17, that will take us to Iberia, but in episode 18 there is another battle in Sardinia :)
Vor yearZ's Imagination Creation
So Hanno contributed to Hannibals doom. Just imagine how far he could've gone, with everyone on board.
Vor yearLux Dolor
I never realized there were this many battles and that Romans kept loosing so many soldiers even though they won this one. No wonder they just hated Carthage and wanted to delete it from the map.
Vor yearNinjaa 695
@Total War Timelapses True people always highlight romes loses but forget the times they completely thrashed their enemies. Yea they did and people forgot that carthage had an army made up of foreign men which kinda takes away a lot of their glory since a lot of their victories can be linked to Greeks or celts.
Vor 9 MonateTotal War Timelapses
@Ninjaa 695 Yeah and honestly even without Scipio I feel like the Romans would've won It was so obvious that Carthage sucked at fighting Rome if the leader wasn't named Hannibal, everyone else during both wars just got stomped time after time by Rome
Vor 9 MonateNinjaa 695
You forgot that the romans done this as well especially under scipio, the battle of utica and illipa where basically 2 cannaes in reverse in terms of deaths.

Vor yearMevlan Isufi
I've been following the series since its debut in 2018 and this is probably the first major battle won by the Romans. It may be still early, but one of my favorite battles of the 2nd Punic War is "The battle of Metaurus River", where the other brother of Hanibal, Hasdrubal Barca is defeated and killed in action by an army led by two roman Consuls. His head, then was thrown to Hanibal's camp to low is morale. This was a world war by ancient standards. i hope you are going to cover it. As always thank you for your work.
Vor yearMindtrap028
@Adzs I am sure they are very sorry for spoiling the ending of a battle that ended 2000 years ago. Also.. have you heard who shot JR?
Vor 11 Monatefares dhane
It is interrsting to see how Hannibal buried, with all respect due, the fallen Roman officiers/consuls, while the romans just beheaded a carthagian general and throw his head without any respect to the rank of that person.
Vor yearEzwan
Oh my. Hannibal suffered so much yet he didnt achieve his dreams. Damn what a tragic hero.
Vor yearAdzs
Why spoil a battle that's yet to be shown? Could have easily just hinted at it, but nah had to go into full detail. Dick move.
Vor yearResileaf
Interestingly, in the grand scheme of things it was a minor victory but it would have long-lasting repercussions. Sometimes, just slowing down the enemy is just as meaningful as defeating them completely.

The nice thing about a world war (which is what it was for the people of the time) is that every battlefield fits into the greater scheme of the conflict.
Vor yearHistoryMarche
@Dan D Indeed. Just small tweaks to Carthaginian war policy could've had major implications.
Vor yearDan D
@HistoryMarche imagine The Carthaginian Senate voting for a full support for Hannibal...but the history was written in other way...looks like was a wrong decision in the end! their mistake was BIG!

Thank you sir. Yes, some of these "side events" seem small, but within 2-3 episodes it will become much clearer how they tie in with Hannibal. All of these events will impact his campaign in Italy a lot!
