I don’t know, I think this looks visually less appealing than the first movie personally. It’s just that when the first movie came out all of the visual elements were next GEN. But now we are in next GEN, so everything in this movie just kind of feels more or less the same? What I’m trying to say is it doesn’t feel any different from the first film, and in someways it just feels a little downgraded as well.

It looks like a video game which they were going for. Can't wait.

I love how the trailer did not show very much that way it's a complete surprise when we see the film. The first movie was very much like this and when I went into the theater I knew very little about the storyline and I was fully blown away.

When a trailer gives you genuine chills. I’m ready to return to Pandora.

I really loved Avatar when it first came out, and several years later I would also come to love the game Subnautica. They both were so successful at immersing you in their respective worlds, and I have multiple unforgettable memories from each of them. This movie almost feels like a merging of these two universes, and I am so there for it. Over the years, I was becoming somewhat ambivalent and skeptical towards the possibility of a sequel ever being finished, but seeing this trailer (especially in the theater) really gave me hope that this may truly have been worth the wait.

Dude I feel the same way too. The scene where in the trailer where they jump out of water gives me so much vibes on Subnautica. What I really like is the two worlds have both story and beautiful environment to it.

The opening shot, along with the simple, yet effective score, really say it all: back to the sense of awe and wonder found on Pandora.

We need more trailers like this. It doesn't give everything away about its plot, it doesn't try to be action-y or flashy, it just lets you be fascinated.

Have you thought that maybe there wasn't anything given away in this teaser because, much like the original film, it's all style and no substance? I hope I'm wrong and in fairness I'm feeling quite bitter because I know I'm in for months and months of Avatar hype all over again whether I want to see it or not, but it's very telling most people are excited about what it looks like as opposed to getting to see the characters again. There's also nothing wrong with just liking something because it's pretty. Films don't have to tell some deep, meaningful story to be good but the way Avatar was so overhyped is just infuriating because it didn't deserve it and would have been a flop were it not for the visuals. Did it pave the way for better CGI in cinema? Absolutely! Praise it for that! The way it was held up as some kind of cinematic masterpiece was ridiculous. People remember things like the journey to Mordor to destroy The One Ring, Neo dodging bullets and fighting Agent Smith for the first time, Nakatomi plaza or even The Snap / Blip. People don't remember lazy re-hashes of Pocahontas with none of the personality or charm.

Say what you will about Avatar’s story, but there is genuine passion that you can feel went into it. Also, the fact that this film largely takes place in an ocean environment, and knowing how deep of a connection Cameron has to our oceans, makes me incredibly excited as well. 💖💖💖

This hits home. Not only was the first Avatar my dad's favorite movie EVER, but his number one passion in life was scuba diving/anything aquatic. Would always bring up "only a couple years left" until the next movie. Can't believe he'll never get to witness what looks like a destined masterpiece (passed while on the way to go scuba diving). I'll watch it twice in theaters for both of us.

I can resonate with that man, my father passed as well, he was a fisherman. He loved and lived for the ocean/beach, and that was where we had so many wonderful memories. This film is going to be something extra special for me.

It was ground breaking in terms of visuals and what could be done with CGI but as a whole it was massively overrated and lacked substance and it gets far more praise and hype than it deserves. It was a very good-looking tech demo. How many people here currently singing the praises of this film even remembered it until the sequel was brought up? This isn't a knock against anyone who did enjoy the first film and I think all a film has to be to qualify as good is be entertaining and if nothing else I think Avatar 2 is going to be a very beautiful film, but in my opinion Avatar just isn't deserving of the hype and had it not been so grossly overhyped beyond being an impressive tech-demo I would've just written it off as just not being for me. There is also a very high chance the sequel is going to be so overhyped it's going to struggle to live up to anyone's expectations. People are either completely sick of Avatar so will boycott it or will go in expecting to have the same experience they had 10+ years ago. The trouble is while Avatar is still making some huge technological leaps and if nothing else will likely be another fantastic tech-demo, it's not going to land the same as it did 10+ years ago because not only is the film industry oversaturated with heavy-CGI films it's also not as big of a jump visually as Avatar was.

I had the same feeling when I was 9, only thing is, the movie I saw was STAR WARS! I was taken by it then in '77, and I was also taken by the first Avatar in 2009. Can't wait to see the next chapter. Oel ngati kameie

I never, NEVER understood people's retroactive hate for the first film. When you ask people what was wrong with it they'll usually give some piss take about how it got too much advertising, or how it was a simple story reminiscent of Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves, to which effect people love both of those movies so what's wrong with that? Avatar was always a visually stunning movie that just happened to use a simple narrative. It was full of "cool" and "alien" shit that literally took you out of earth entirely and plocked you down in an entirely foreign setting where you had to learn about the world and its people and that was a fun journey to go on. Sure, the overarching narrative was simple, but you're there for the journey and to learn about the world and what the people there value. Not every story needs to be The Sixth Sense. And it is so damn nice to see after all these years of defending it there are actually loads of people who love it. You just could never hear them over the petulant whining.

@Serennekin If you want to ruin your movie make the story “complex.” Look at Valerian. Complex story and it bombed. Cameron understands that you put the depth in the themes and world building. Simple arcs and universal themes are the gold standard for a reason. Wrap it all in an exciting world like avatar and you have well..2.7 billion speaks for itself.

So many great films have simple stories. Godfather Star wars Good fellas Fury road Dune

this is what i’m saying! So many people always say how Avatar is bad because the story isn’t complex. But a movie doesn’t need to have complex and convoluted plots to be good! The reason why avatar is good is because of its breathtaking visuals and it’s ability to take you deep into and fall in love with a new and foreign world. I always defended it, and now Im so glad all the avatar fans are finally coming out showing their excitement for this franchise!!
