Hello Sunshine is dedicated to female authorship across all storytelling platforms, including film, television, books, social videos, and audio. The media company is founded by Academy and Emmy Award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon.
We’re excited to connect women (and men) to narratives told from a distinctively female perspective. We want the growing Hello Sunshine community of creators and audience members to feel seen and heard. Whether our audience identifies with a character from our book pick or with the heroine (or villain) from our TV shows, or strikes up a conversation sparked by our videos, Hello Sunshine’s mission is to show women as the flawed and often complicated heroes of their own stories. Hello Sunshine - the story starts with you.

So she has used her representation female privilege to walk over more talented, hardworking and truly gifted directors, perhaps she will right a book titled "How to succeed despite having absolutely no talent or experience"

Hollywood luvvies patting each other on the back for their supposed "bravery" and "talent" isn't new. Why do people still fall for this crap? Ava DuVernay is a barely-talented hack and people only give her the time of day because of her skin color, her sex organs, and the fact that she spews the "correct" politics.

I love Ava Duvernay! So raw and real about how women are told that there is only a formal way to learn. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Ms. Duvernay! #inspiring #blackgirlsrock

I love ava so much, she inspires me because I have a passion in filmmaking and I've Always wanted to be film director and Playwright and create my own visions. Ava is the face when it comes to female directors of color and I can't wait to follow her footsteps and become a filmmaker of color! She's beautiful and aboselutely stunning💕

Keke Shavion ignore all of these other idiots in the comments. I’m in the same boat as you, I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker and as a woman of color it’s hard to see yourself represented, especially in directorial roles. That’s why Ava inspires me so much. I hope we both get to where we’re going someday :)

Wow, that's amazing! But how did she do to convince producers? It's so hard for so many women, they would give the money to guys who have no experience, but when we show them our best showreels, producers don't care. Men still can get money more easily than us to make their films. Maybe one day, it will truly be 50-50 male-female grants? There's still a long way to go, so many female writers and directors who can't work, can't make as many projects as men. At uni, I've seen guys who were unable to direct get jobs, while us girls, who had the best grades and teachers recommendations can't find any. And the worst is... these guys got paid to make a terrible job! Terrible lighting, terrible frames and all. They got PAID. But we, women, are showing our most beautiful showreels and no one wants to hire us or too occasionally to have a career.

Agree with @Jmissy205 personality will get you far. I'll also add that Ava self funded and producer her first 3-4 films because no one was giving her the opportunity. She stopped asking for permission and focused her attention on figuring out how to make the films on her own. It wasn't until she took the initiative and started to gain recognition for her work that she took off. I'd recommend watching her Film Independent Keynote Speech video. It's super informative and inspirational. She's brilliant.

God is the only way sweetheart. Your character will take you a long way. It's not about experience but your likeability. I've gotten jobs and didn't have experience and what catch most people attention is my smile, my high energy level, and my bubbly personality.

Reese I just love you. I love watching you continue to expand your empire and to have an interview with a personal idol/giant of mine is breathtaking. I'm a filmmaker too, just like Ava and can relate to everything that both of you said. "Just give me the ball". Thank you so much for putting this much needed content out there for female filmmakers like myself. www.viktoriaivking.com

Except no, she isn't actually a very good filmmaker. People only give her attention because of the "social justice" angle. That's why A Wrinkle in Time flopped.

I wish I had realized that before I racked up 70, 000 in school loans. Meanwhile, majority of the important things I've learned have been from listening to podcasts, and watching commentary on how things were made and so on. I wish I could warn all the youth.
