The popularity of Vision Pro mostly relies on third party app development interest. There's a reason why not many games were ported to Mac OS, and that is the size of target consumers not being big enough for the development to be justifiable. It's still a new tech, and Apple should really focus on making a lower cost version in the coming years to trigger mass adoption.
Vor 3 MonateMajor Mononoke +6
well, this could be pretty useful for people that need to read an ultimate large amount of text like students. But since this people usually dont have that much money, this seems to be an other waste of money for the hippos...
Vor 3 MonateAllen Byx +13
I agree, but I do think that there’s two kind of “people” that will buy this = early adopters/Apple fans, and corporations willing to give mixed reality a go in their offices. Apple really sold its usability in the professional space; this isn’t an amateur’s tool, so it’s not priced like one. If we think about other headsets, they’re aimed specifically at gaming and not much else. Honestly, it would be awesome to see Sony expand the usability of its own VR headset, with that said.
Vor 3 MonateHendrik G +2
They should collab with Sony
Vor 3 Monatearturin rabag +1
Not really, apple can pull it off 50% of the way just like the iPad, right now the biggest interest of it is to expand screens across the MacBook in any place, there is no 3rd party need there.
Vor 3 Monatearturin rabag +1
Not really, most of the people want this to have multiple screens over their MacBook
Vor 3 MonateDevon +2200
Even if I could afford this, I would still wait for the second gen model. The battery would probably see an improvement and there would be broader app support by then.
Vor 3 MonateSal3600 +146
Agreed, early adopters will have to fund this for the time being
Vor 3 MonateGerson Gaete +91
why even care about battery? it has a battery pack, just buy a bigger one or an expansion for it. if you are just gonna use it while sitting on a sofa and not moving around, buy a massive 40 thousand mah with a long enough cable and just leave it on a desk or on the floor. Or buy multiple batteries and switch when they run low.
Vor 3 MonateA c +79
Yeah, But the second gen won’t come out for years… they’re not going to update it after a year like an iPhone. Also, you can use it plugged in, so the battery isn’t as big of a problem. I mean I personally wouldn’t walk around with that thing on my head lol

Vor 3 MonatejPup +42
That’s basically the point of this, it’s essentially a productized developer kit. They aren’t expecting to sell millions, they just need devs to get their foot in the door so when the tech catches up and they can release a comparable non-pro version for ~1k it will have been ironed out with tons of app support. All the leaked production numbers show they’re only trying to make something like 500k units and that development on the non-pro consumer version is already well underway.

Reminds me of the first apple watch when they even brought a gold apple watch. And they put all kinds of things between hardware and software and they slowly but surely positioned the product as a health and fitness device.
Vor 3 Monatej1000a +19
The gold watch was an irrelevant niche variant. These goggles are $3,500 for the main product. The best comparison here is the Lisa. Wait for the "Mac" headset instead.
Vor 3 MonateAceKunSan +3
@j1000a extremely well put
Vor 3 MonateTatiana ES +1
@j1000a NOT sure how good the device would be “macified”, meaning Apple Vision without the “Pro”. It all makes sense only with the components this good. This means that Apple will probably only sell Vision Pro in 2024, and then move the device to become Vision model in 2025, while introducing an upgraded device as Vision Pro.
Vor 3 MonateTatiana ES +1
The main positioning here is a giant high-resolution, HDR and wide gamut stereo/3D screen with truly surround sound. For now, however, if you have $3.6K to buy thing thing, you can already buy a real giant screen and a real surround audio system for $$5-10K. The only advantage of Vision is that it is 3D, but there is not a lot of video content for this. The big change might come when Vision will cost like $600, but by then giant TVs will also become cheaper.

Vor 3 MonateTheManHimself +4
I'll need to see people using it to get a feel of the experience but at this point, and that price, it'll be hard sell, ironically because of Apple. The experience of using this needs to be amazing and useful enough that someone would forgo buying a MacBook Air, iPhone and Airpods Max for one of these. So far, I'm not convinced. Looks cool tho.

3rd party Developer access is huge and is mainly what a device like this rides on. Being as widespread as Apple is I can really see this taking off in the next few years. Just imagine organisations funding development of apps used for medicine, engineering, etc.. This could be huge not because the tech is anything new, but because of its ease of use and potential wide app variety. Only thing right now though is that price tag, yikes 😬 nonetheless, many people will still buy it

Without a doubt something much cheaper is on the horizon. The hefty price is probably coming from the fact that this is an “early adopters” product + the “Apple premium” Can’t wait for this to advance so much that it’ll look like literal thin ski goggles and more aligned to something you can wear everyday and doesn’t look ridiculous in public. This looks amazing but also terrifying. One thing that I think is VERY important for future models is to be able to connect to other people's devices so that you really can see and share the same experiences. It would be cool if a friend could see exactly what you are seeing. I don't mean just like a screen copy thing but your headset projecting something into 3D space that appears in the exact space for them as it does for you. I'm not very good at explaining this how I imagine it, but my biggest fear with this is that it will isolate people even more. If they can design and upgrade it in a way that somehow promotes more human interaction then I think that will be a win. Whether this is successful or not, this eventually is the future. It's important to address the social issues early on because if people get to used to it without these social features, they won't want/need them later

I believe the main purpose of releasing these goggles is to further facilitate to their image… which is really what people buy into at the end of the day, even if they aren’t buying these goggles specifically. The simplistic, stylish, borderline designer ‘sphere’ of products has evidently made a lot of heads turn since the iPhone. A great example is the addition of the Apple Watch, or AirPods Max. The ideas aren’t new, or timeless. The functionality isn’t a necessity in any scenario, but the rounded corners (both metaphorically and physically), the concepts, the class, is what we are buying into repeatedly. Similar to how an artist will create a unique atmosphere in an album for people to be enthralled by, and pulled into using a variation of covers and sounds, Apple has created a unique lineup of products, all adhering to an image, for us *to believe*

I get why people think that’s kinda funny/ironic, but it’s really about eye strain when focusing on a screen too close. VR lenses make it so you’re not focusing on something up close. That’s why us nearsighted people still need prescription lenses to see anything with the headset on.

it has no controllers, so anything gaming related is out of the question, despite using an external battery it only lasts 2 hours, after trying to see the specs I was only met with vague remarks about how it is "4k" which means nothing in context, 4k per eye? The display in total is 4k? And what about the pixel density which matters more? also no mention of fov which is arguably the most important factor in the headset. Seems extremely overpriced like most apple products. You could find better VR headsets at half the price, take the big screen beyond for example, incredibly high resolution, with the best form factor in the entire market, probably less than half the size of the vision pro, using a custom 3d scanned face pad, still only 1000$. This headset can literally do nothing to justify the price difference it has with the rest of the MR market. Nevertheless uninformed apple fanboys will still buy it.

Google Glass was a product often avoided by consumers for one reason or another. Maybe it was the steep $1,500 asking price? There are two major reasons why the product failed from the consumer perspective, and the first was the design. At the time, Glass looked rather clunky. While a newer version did improve the design, it wasn't enough to make a huge difference in sales. The second reason is the concerns consumers had about the product possibly collecting data from users or being vulnerable to hacking from outsiders. that's equivalent to $1950 today. and apple wants twice as much, after taxes. And no no no there's nothing invasive to one's privacy about having your face 3d scanned by a huge multinational corporation with foundations in china.

Well lets say the Vision Pro does get the 3rd party app support it needs to success... feel that the bottleneck of this headset's growth is the fact that it's locked in the apple ecosystem. Who's to say a use-case that the headset's average consumer is a feature Apple wouldn't be able to provide because it would break the proprietary nature of the Apple ecosystem? Just wanted to say for the record, this thing’s displays are a total of 23 megapixels. The HTC Vive Pro 2, the highest resolution VR headset for home use, only has about 12. It’ll be the highest resolution VR headset to date. Even more that the current highest headset, the Varjo VR-3 with about 16 megapixels. This is most likely one of the main reasons why this thing is so expensive. In VR, resolution is one of the single biggest factors in the quality of the experience.
Vor 3 MonateAshr. +3
What's the comparison in pixel density? I think that's ultimately more important to how good things look
Vor 3 MonateBertoBeats +13
@Ashr. The screen is right up in front of your eye, and the highest resolution on the market. The pixel density is phenomenal, but no one in the public has tried it to know whether it will have any noticeable pixel separation or not. My guess is it will be absolutely miniscule, almost unnoticeable. Edit: I should say I've done a ton of VR development, usually around 1440p per eye. This produces a decent amount of "screen door effect" but you pretty quickly get used to it. That's about 4.6 megapixels. This is 23.
Vor 3 MonateErioch Stomp +3
How did you calculate that? Most specs are reporting the vive pro 2 to have 6 megapixels not 12. Edit: oh in total. Ok 12mp, but realistically each eye sees only 6. And that would put the Vision pro at about 11mp.

Also the PSVR headset looks actually better. This headset looks only "subjectively better" because you can at least see the person's face, which makes it look more like snorkeling gear. what that transparency will do for immersiveness when you want to go full VR remains to be seen, but I digress
Vor 3 MonateBass Tones +4
These things have actual technical specs you can compare....I have a PSVR2 and it's awesome but this Apple kit is in a whole different league than that.
Vor 3 MonateLandgraf43 +4
Its not transparent. There is a display on the front.
Vor 3 MonateC C
The PSVR headset is a pretty different device though
Vor 3 MonateIuli C +1
@Bass Tones It's not really, it has no controllers, so anything gaming related is out of the question, despite using an external battery it only lasts 2 hours, after trying to see the specs I was only met with vague remarks about how it is "4k" which means nothing in context, 4k per eye? The display in total is 4k? And what about the pixel density which matters more? also no mention of fov which is arguably the most important factor in the headset. Seems extremely overpriced like most apple products. You could find better VR headsets at half the price, take the big screen beyond for example, incredibly high resolution, with the best form factor in the entire market, probably less than half the size of the vision pro, using a custom 3d scanned face pad, still only 1000$. This headset can literally do nothing to justify the price difference it has with the rest of the MR market. Nevertheless uninformed apple fanboys will still buy it.
Vor 3 MonateKID COMA
It doesn’t look better, it will look very dated in a few years, while apples design is less inyourface and timeless
Vor 3 MonateKenevara +141
$2499 w/ at least a 5 hour battery life would go much farther toward my wallet but still interesting. I think this needs at least 9 hours of battery life for mass market appeal.
Vor 3 MonateMani +45
You can still use it wired, which is what most people will do for work.
Vor 3 MonateBen +14
I'm interested... In trying it out for 14 days and an additional 14 days after I start my return 😉
Vor 3 MonateSora Granda +3
Also, next year the M3 will appear, and the M2 will not be justified for that price (since it cost like $650 alone of the SoC, the price is still too much). Sadly don't think the benefits of M3 will fix this since they will keep the same node and just include last year A chip advancements that aren't even full spec of cortex v9 (which btw, apple have their own solutions, some even somewhat better but still, it needs full specs, this is an issue for a while now :/).
Vor 3 MonateSora Granda +5
@Mani You can buy a macbook air with m2 and various monitors for that price so, not really a good investment for work, also, not been able to move that is a real issue for a $3500 device... The software is potentially the best on the market but at that pricetag... good luck.
Vor 3 MonateBen +6
If you're an Apple fan with a limited budget, you should not be buying this at all. If you have a maximum unlimited budget and are very well off financially, sure, go ahead and buy it. You'll make it cheap for all of us in the future even if we don't go with Apple. But if you're an Apple fan with a limited budget, wait until this is on its third gen. The thing has only 2h of battery life 3rd gen is going to have 8 hours of battery life it will be way way better in three generations. 1st gen products always are not that great. Second gen is just a slight improvement. Most of the time the third generation is where they revamp it a tad and the battery life is solid

I'm gonna wait the 2nd version

While I will admit there is sticker shock, I think when you look at other VR/AR headsets it is a fair price. For the uninitiated in VR, this Vision Pro is touting 23 million pixels with micro oled which will help immensely with picture clarity. For reference: Meta Quest 3 ($500) = 9.1 million LCD Valve Index ($1000) = 4.6 million LCD Pimax Vision 8K X ($1300) = 16.5 million LCD Varjo Aero ($2000) = 15.6 million mini LED And only the first option has software to run on it's own like the Vision Pro.
Vor 3 MonateLorenzo Soleri +22
the headset doesn't scan your face when you put it on, you go through a setup in which the front cameras and sensors on the headset develop a map of the face before you put the Vision pro. this was all said in the presentation.
Vor 3 MonateMICROLABS +1
it does scan your iris tho

Vor 3 MonateJ- +4
i don’t think it’s a fair comparison with meta. meta is a whole different world, and arguably unsecured and invasive as hell. apple has carved their own market out here, in particular with the augmented reality set up(there literally is no parallel currently) and it’s interesting to see how it pans out. i think it’ll be easy to find people finding value in the security that apple provides, after all, it’s innately a prett invasive piece of tech, but with the assurance that it’s all on device processing , it’s got an easy leg up on meta, which is still likely pricing their products bellow the premium of production simply for user data
Vor 3 Monatek +2
For the amount of technology in this device, I must say that it does not look weird at all and I am not rich by any means but I am going to buy it.
Vor 3 MonateGunzy +6
To me, this is the first Apple product that I don't see my self "needing". It started with the iPad, but they found ways to make it useful enough to be worth it. The same goes for the Watch and it's health features. IDK this just doesn't feel real, like a real Apple product normally does.
Vor 3 MonateMortecai222
I’m so glad it’s priced at $3499 because if it was $3500 I definitely couldn’t afford it

Is this why Oculus quest series never have a separate battery, but always put it in the front heavy headset, because Apple patented the separate battery design? 😅
Vor 3 MonateJackson Akins +1
Surprised the did the battery on the outside; not very Apple-like. But probably the best way to do it, especially if it only gets 2 hours even with an external battery.
Vor 3 MonateJosh +4
The value with headsets today is in the gaming space. Apple is far behind when it comes to gaming. If this could integrate with steam, which Apple would never do, then I could see this being more of a buy. But at $3500 I'd rather just buy an awesome OLED tv with surround sound and a solid laptop.
Vor 3 MonateMani +3

Vor 3 Monateschmiggy +6
lol, I'm willing to bet that if you can use larger batteries, they will need to be "apple certified" meaning any portable batteries people already own would be useless (not to mention the premium that will be added). Like what they're doing with USB-C cables.
Vor 3 MonateFala Ai
@schmiggy --- I bet you Anker does a version. They'll just license the magsafe connector which looks a little smaller than the phone version.

Vor 3 MonateA Man?
@Kamil Even with displays that have half the fidelity of passthrough it's rarely an issue (varjo 3 is a good example, it's already at the point where its passthrough looks almost identical to reality, and Vision Pro is supposed to be even better), and if the IPD is automatic and the focal length is adjustable then all it should need is good software to keep things running smoothly. Even if this doesn't convince you, then it's not like it should matter since the battery only lasts 2 hours anyways, you basically HAVE to take breaks to charge it so no time for long-term brain-fuckery.

I'll wager the cheaper version (aka: Apple Vision, not Pro) will ditch the speakers and potentially the hand gesture tracking. That way, you can use your existing AirPods and Apple Pencil 2 to replace those functions, while bringing the overall cost down. By that point, early adopters/tech channels will have been (hopefully) blown away by the Pro and have shown a whole bunch of use cases/got rid of bugs.
Vor 3 MonateWingiu
Removal of Hand Gesture recognition would be purely artificial, as it most likely hust uses an ai to detect your gestures from camera feed. On the other hand it is just plain useless, apart from maybe watching movies, everything is much more convenient to do on a real screen/tv/computer/iphone.
Vor 3 MonateMr Sneaky Shadow
Remember the first iPhone?, That was a novelty after a few weeks, It only had 2g rather than 3g, It couldn't use a normal 3.5mm headphone jack It could only use the supplied earphones or ones that came the ipod, It had a 2mp camera while the Sony cybershot had a 3.2mp with a Xenon flash that also did video, No app store and you couldn't even have a background in it, Then the 2nd Generation iPhone the "IPhone 3g" came out a year later and got alot better, I feel like this is kind of the same thing, Where when people and companies have it then and give all the massive feedback then it improves massively, Like the iPhone in 2007, It made competition with the T-Mobile G1 with android, Then as the years went by both apple and google took the software experience and made it vastly better, As they played against one other, This AR headset will actually be better to push VR and AR experiences forwards, Though I had to laugh in the keynote when ios now does a google with an android beam competitive feature only what.... 12 years later, Anyway hopefully this new competition helps push everything forwards, Where it drives prices down to a reasonable cost,
