Perfectly fair comments, based on my experience so far with the mini3. Really small and easy to carry; great image quality; easy to fly; hard to wreck (thanks to collision avoidance); decent battery life; and the remote control is outstanding.

I'm getting horrible range on this drone; ~400m in the city and just over 1km in the suburbs. Sometimes less. How much range does yours get?

Seems expensive when compared to the other minis but does have more packed into it. As far as comparison to larger drones it reminds me of my days with photography. Cameras which used larger format film gave much better image quality, but the size, weight, and expense of the system made them undesirable after a while.

Awesome! Thanks for your opinion! I am thinking of selling my Mini2 to get the 3 but was waiting for some β€œ30 days later” type videos. I understand it’s also improved with all the updates. I’m wondering, have they updated the firmware so that APAS 4.0 and Focus Track work with 4K-60fps &1080-120fps? Specs for the Mini 3 on DJI’s website say they don’t!?

I just bought the Air 2s and I can't say enough good things about it. Plenty of bang for your buck, but,,,,, I'm getting really interested in the Mini 3 pro, not only because of all the features it has, even over the mini-2, but nice and less conspicuous it is because of the small size. I'm glad you did most of your comparison with the mini 3 Pro vs the Air 2s for obvious reasons. By the way, you did a fine job on your comparison here. Keep up the good work. Marc T.

Nice overview of your experiences πŸ‘. I had the connection issues with mine, until the latest RC firmware update, which seems to have solved it for me (I use the standard RC-N1 controller). So the only issue left for mine is the overheating. When it's hot out, just has to be moving at a decent speed to avoid the issue, which sometimes means not getting the shot you want. Otherwise super impressed.

Good thorough video, Terry! I started with (and still have) a Mini 2, which for the money is still a fantastic drone. It does lack some features, sure, but as a starter drone it really holds up, and of course the size/weight factors are huge. I added an Air 2S to the mix, and honestly was a bit let down. I loved the robust build, and the performance and image quality were great. But it had some things I didn't like (like the flat strip charger, hated that thing), and it wasn't nearly as inconspicuous in flight as the Mini 2. So I sold the A2S, and jumped at the Mini 3 Pro for the new stuff: new remote, better sensor, upward/vertical gimbal, obstacle avoidance, active track. Loving it so far, and no regrets. I have seen the effects of wind, and I'm hoping the heavier batteries (once I can finally get my hands on the Fly More Plus) will help that a little. Still, really enjoying the M3P so far, and looking forward to what else DJI might bring to it in future updates.

@Wanderland - Travel.Photography.Geekery I guess it comes down to how good your hearing is right? I put my mini 2 up 394' or 120 meters and I still hear that b, I'm looking around because I know someone could hear it not that one's doing anything wrong or illegal, just its easy to hear for myself anyway.

@Emme Apps I'm sure I'll salivate over that one too, but it's the low noise of the Mini series that really sells me. I just love how once it's up to 50 or 100 feet, it basically disappears for anyone who doesn't know it's there!

I’m trying my hardest to hold out for the Air 3 because if it hits the mark with all the things people loved about the A2s and M3P then adding new stuff plus bigger sensor and even better avoidance, plus compatibility with all of the remotes including the goggles to introduce a hybrid fpv mode would be amazing

Thanks for your comparison. I love my Air 2s and thanks to your review I don't regret not buying a mini 3 pro although it's a great piece of technology, no doubt about it. I had a similar problem to yours. I also own Mavic Air 2 so I was planning to sell it the moment my new Flymore combo arrives but I had second thoughts about it because of those batteries - they are interchangeable on both models so now I have much more flying time and a spare drone to use just in case. Also charging is super fast, if I need to recharge my 6 batteries, I use two chargers and I can get back into the air pretty quick. πŸ˜‰

Just stumbled across your feed. Quite impressive! Thanks for your perspective. I don't fly mini's but have always been interested in the pocket size aspect and you covered it. As far as the controller, I'm reserved still. I like the features, but not sure I'd go for the RC over the RC Pro. Seems like DJI is strategically releasing compatibility to sell their RCs. Although less expensive than the RC Pro, it doesn't have enough advantages over the N1 to nudge me towards another RC. The Air2s was selling with the RC Pro as a package for about $300 more and almost had me, but that RC was limited in compatibility to only the Air2s. Seems like you'd still need a phone for companion apps if using the RC, as compared to the RC Pro which has the ability to load other apps. Just FYI, I fly the Mavic 3 and very happy with it. Only advantage of a Mini series would be the size. Would be great to fit in a pocket on the go off road or on vacation.

Hi Terry, Great video. I love the fact that the fly more combo is separate again. Originally, the fly more combo was separate. It annoys me personally that I couldn't buy it separately for the air 2s for example. So if you could only afford a basic kit, you would have to buy a whole new drone to get the fly more combo.

The idea of "feels cheap" always makes me crazy, back like 3 careers ago I was an engineer, I've forgotten more about this stuff than most people will ever know and yeah, if you're looking for light materials - and lets be clear they're needed here - they might subjectively "feel" cheap but that doesn't mean they are and it might not be possible to do better without doubling the price. The wind stuff could be at least partially resolvable in software, given it is software that controls the stability in flight which is something people forget - as long as the controller cpu is fast enough and the gyro is sensitive enough and the props are reactive enough you can do a lot - there's a limit because yeah the size and lightness thing (seems like longer arms might have helped) but there are things you can do. I own an Air 2 (not S) and I don't fly it much because of the laws in my country and it being hard to find somewhere it's legal to fly around me - the official _statistics_ of the m3p make it remarkably compelling to me to do the thing you said at the start of the video, I can't even really take my A2 out of it's case very often so being able to fly at all more often is quite a big deal. Thanks for the informative video.

During covid I bought lots of camera equipment, including the fly more combo of the mini dji planning on starting to shoot documentaries overseas as a hobby. I'm starting to travel, but carrying gear is very expensive (baggage fees) adding over $100-150 per trip. As well, drones sometimes just can't be flown due to air restrictions. I still think that having a basic drone for "B-roll" shots is a good idea, but no need to spend the extra money, at least at this time.

Ive been watching and waiting for 20 years on this. I thought the M3P specs and the current state of drone AI, is about where I wanted to get into it, 20 years ago. So I got one, and took it out today for flight test uno. Well fck me backwards its incredibly easy to use. I know I'm going to be using this thing as bird binoculars at the very least. Its quiet! In hot weather the downdraft is really something dji should release a product line of floating ceiling fans for picnic's and such. What I didnt really know about is the infrastructure, OS and stuff only a regular user would know. That ecosystem is really impressive. Between your phone, apps, gov, & dji, its very easy to set up, in a park, with just your phone as a personal hotspot, and what comes in the box, as I did yesterday. It costs $5 for some document from FAA to say you are not totally shtfaced while operating said machinery, and it lasts for two years. Aloft, BFUFLY & Dji Fly apps seem to cover everything I needed to get going.

Another great video Terry, but I have to point out, in many EU countries the weightlimit is 250 grams - if you have a drone heavier than that, then you need a more specialized and sometimes even a commercial license. This is the market they are aiming at. Love mine to be honest.

I have a 2 KG limit on what I can fly, but where I can fly is height and zone restricted regardless of drone weights under 2Kg. @Hayden Vogel Air2s has far superior image, is faster, more stable but there are restriction where you can fly it. Thanks for the follow up. I've never been a big fan of the sub 250 gram drones because you have to give up stuff to keep the weight down. The Mini 3 Pro doesn't have as sturdy a frame as the Air 2s and other 250+ gram drones. I pretty much never crash a drone, but a stronger frame is a big selling point for me. The Mini 3 doesn't have a built in cooling fan. You have to use a reduced battery size/weight. Well, you have to (I think) register your drone as part of the 107 license anyway, but for recreational pilots, that 249 gram is really just a small line item that is over-hyped. You have to stay in visual line of sight (VLOS), so if you want to extend the range by adding a strobe, again, you're past the 250 gram mark. To stay

@Prabh Saini I hope you're able to get the drone and the work. I'm not sure how things work in Australia, but here in the USA if you are flying and taking photos of real estate, even for free, I am not so certain that can be done without a part 107 license. I just registered my drones (Mavic Pro and Mini 3 Pro) and one thing I was reading said if you're taking photos of something that will be posted on a website for someone, that's outside the area of recreational flying. I strongly suggest asking your parents for the DJI Care. I paid for the multi-year coverage, and I think the first replacement is $65, next $75, then $79 US dollars. If you break your drone once, if it just flies away, or you somehow crash it in the water, replacing the drone will be far more than the cost of the DJI care and those 3 amounts. I'm sure your parents will see the logic in that. Plus, you have a limited time to add the DJI Care after you receive your drone 48 hours. I was worried because I was doing everything right, but my code was not working. It took me 2 different chat sessions with DJI to get this fixed. Best of luck my friend and keep your rotors top side!

@Noneya Frigginbezwax fmk = fly more kit, also congratulations on the drone! I’m not going to buy dji care because I think I should be good enough lol. In australia to register your drone you need to be 16 and I’m one year shy of that so I’m planning on doing free aerial photography for properties and then use that experience to get real customers when I can. Realistically I could use a mini se/2 but it doesn’t have obstacle sensors or active track and a super good camera. I’m not sure how to ask for the drone (because it is my birthday soon) but i’ll probably try. Anyway safe flying, hope you enjoy the drone!

@Prabh Saini FMK? Not sure what that is. I bought the drone on the 5th, and originally it said it would be here on the 10th, but it arrived on the 6th (today). Quite happy, but I don't really want to fly it until I have the DJI Care activated, and I'm having problems with that. Unless you're using the drone to make money, the Mini or Mini 2 may be enough? Maybe set up a YouTube channel as a content creator and use that to pay for the drone...although if you are obtaining any footage from the drone to upload on a monetized YouTube channel that will require the part 107 license. The cost of a new Mini 3 Pro is a lot to ask for when it is not your own money being spent. Best of luck!

Its not bad, and Fimi is (mostly) water resistant. But they are no DJI as far as flight stability, updates, etc. My Fimi X8SE 2022 was a great drone, but the Air 2 (Not S) Fly More is under $800 now and is only 1000 times better (in my opinion) once I got Air 2 I only flew the Fimi in the rain, lol. And the Waypoints they offer have not a single big of documentation. I'm an engineer and after a year of playing with it, still couldn't figure out how to set height of POIs. It's a good value for sure. But it's no DJI, and I am the furthest thing from a DJI Fanboy. One warning. Don't do Autel. Nice hardware. Crap firmware, slow development, and non-existent support. Like 14 cases opened for my Evo 2 Pro, and only one got worked, then ignored lke the rest. Get the Fimi, but keep your expectations in check.

I have both, use them for building inspections and the like. The only drawback to mini 3 is wind stability close to objects. This is actually made worse by the gimbal. If you're watching through controller, things will look fine - but you will hear the rotors change speed, and when you look at the drone, it's struggling. Keeping both, I keep the mini in the car all the time - bring out the air 2S when I know I'm doing a job. Obstacle avoidance can fight you.

D-Cinelike vs D-Log I found they while it was easier to grade D-Log from A2S by hand when using the same exact correction lut, made for the A2S, with Mini 3 Pro D-Cinelike I get pretty much identical results.

great review and comparison. you right. air 2s is a better drone for my opinion. I stick to it and freaking love it. I don't know if just me but mini 3 is not very good in windy situations. I have air 2s and my friend has mini3 and when we go to mountains and he flied the drone, mini 3 is really struggling to stay still but I don't have any problem flying in wind. The other problem is the mini 3 speed. when mini 3 be in windy situations and you want to bring it back if the wind is in opposite direction of the drone the speed of the mini3 is being redacted drastically. you must be very careful in windy days if you want to fly this drone at long distance. πŸ˜ƒ

Y’all have to remember, the mini 3 was made specifically for Europe. Because any drone over 250grams the person basically has to get their private pilots license. The mini 3 was made below the 250grams for that specific reason.

Hello Terry, I'm a photographer / videographer and just getting into drones...I was gifted a DJI Spark and now I have the AIR 2S which I absolutely LOVE!!!! Your video is on point and very informative. my AIR 2S is my baby...the absolute best in the middle as far as deciding on which drone to buy. The fact that you can buy a host of accessories for it and it handles them quite well is a game changer in itself. By the way...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE HELO SOUND EFFECT USED IN THE DRONE AERIAL CLIPS.......EPIC INDEED!!!!

A really nice drone, image quality and so forth, but one constant thing I came up against frequently was the windy weather, and was not able to fly with any confidence at these times. I know you can't have everything, but there were many times I came up against strong windy weather on my recent vacation.

Thanks for this. Your selling/buying is the same situ I find myself in. Sold my Mini 2 and some Fimi stuff to get Mavic 3. PLANNED to sell my Air 2(not S) for my Mini 3 Pro, and just keeping Mavic 3 /RC Pro and Autel Evo 2 Pro. But then Phillip Bloom got me to Look at sensor sizes by surface area (forget that 1 over 1/2.3 shit, sizing based on 1950's TV Vacuum tube diameters) Mini 2: 28.46mmΒ² Mavic Air 2. 30.72mmΒ² Mini 3 Pro. 69.12mmΒ² Air 2S. 116.16mmΒ² Mavic 3. 224.9mmΒ² How about that Mavic 3 number? Whatever else you say about it, it's got the camera to slay the skies! But my poor Air 2. It's so puny! Thing is, I'm STILL reluctant to sell, even though I got a credit card balance to beat down. Ahh well. I'll sell it... when I can't pay that bill, lol! FYI - the 47 minute batteries still don't get near Mavic 3 flight time (rated 46) -maybe after some more cycles, I only have 3 or 4 cycles on them.

I totally disagree. I own both, been flying for over 3 years, own a DSP company (so I’ve flown all makes and models), and am Part 107 Certified. The A2S for the money is bar none, the best DJI product on the market today. The Mini 3, is basically an Air 2, that has been reduced to 250 grams. If you are a 44809 recreational flyer, then this is the perfect drone for you. No registration or other hassles that come with drones over .55lbs to 55lbs which is what Part 107 covers. The big difference is in the cameras. While the Mini is limited to a 1/2 inch CMOS sensor and 12 megapixel, the A2S has a 1” CMOS and 20 megapixels. The advertised 48 megapixel abilities on both the Mini 3 Pro and Air 2, use a Quad-Bayer filter and a pixel binning scheme to virtualize 48 megapixels. To get any benefit, you need A LOT of light! The Mini 3 Pro has a lot going for it, especially the revolutionary gimbal and is destined to be a DJI best seller, but I would never sell my A2S for one.

no way I'd buy the mini 3 pro. I already have an air 2. It does the job fine. and handles wind better. The small improvements over older drone versions aren't worth the money. If I had to choose the mini 3 pro or air 2s, def air 2s. The only real advantage to the mini is you won't need to register it or get remote ID. The size difference between it and the air 2 is meaningless to me.

the only thing i like more about the mini 3 pro is how quiet it is. for doing a lot of urban filming, it goes unnoticeable quite often. sub 250 doesn't matter to me as I had to register it for Part 107 anyways. also the controller having a screen is clutch and makes setup super fast

I think the majority of people getting the Mini, regardless of which version, have one thing in mind. The fact that you're under 250g's. Can't beat the fact that you're under the global legal limit for requiring a licence, register the drone and all the other red tape. With that said, it's hard to compare to the Air series. Now bring in the camera quality of the mini 3 pro, no comparison.

Man, I died when you asked Google to shut up πŸ˜‚... Anyhow, the biggest deal for me about the mini 3 Pro is that it's the first drone I've seen that has acceptable quality while being light enough to fly over crowds of people and in populous areas without a hard to get special permission. That's a deal breaker for me since all I film is live events. I'll definitely get one, thanks for the review!

As a new buyer I think what appeals to me more about the Air2S is that you can actually grade the footage when shooting in 10-bit DLog. As fun as the Mini3 Pro is and all the features it has, you still can't colorgrade the footage as effectively for professional work and for that reason I'm gonna go with the Air2S, but I totally understand why someone might not be looking for that, especially if their focus is on social media and quickly-made content, for that the Mini3 Pro makes sense.
