Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
Today we will take a closer look into the cold weather certification process, especially on the recent newly launched Airbus A220. Why do planes need to get this certification, what is it good for and how is it done.
….
Now, what is the reason for such testing and certification? Mainly, it’s all about the performance of the plane after being exposed to these extreme temperatures, without any sources of heat to prevent the crucial parts from cooling down too far. While resting for the previously mentioned 12 hours, everything cools down to the outside temperature. That brings some issues, starting with the materials an aircraft is made of. When cooled, metal and other materials have the characteristic that they contract. The problem here is, that different materials contract at different rates, meaning that some materials contract more than others at the same temperature. In aviation, a variety of materials is used for different purposes. Contracting at different rates, puts some serious stress especially on structural parts and on the engines.
…
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
Wishing you all the best!
Your "Captain" Joe

This video is a class of science. Fantastic explanation about the interference of heat and cooling in airplanes. I also like the examples showed in his father shop. Great video.
Vor 9 MonateCanada EhXplained
Here's a local example of the importance of being able to start up in cold weather.. I'm a frequent passenger based at CYQT - obviously, its cheaper for an airline to leave a plane overnight here than it would be at Pearson in Toronto, or another larger airport - so pre-COVID, our airport would host 8 Q400s overnight - 3 from Air Canada, 3 Porter, and 2 from WestJet. Now - our normal winter temperatures in late Jan early Feb is usually no more than -25, often in the -40 before the windchill. Its the same polar winds that freeze Yellowknife that freeze us - but even those little props can handle it no problem. Well. One problem. How would you feel if your coffee was still frozen for the first 5:30am flight xD
Vor 9 MonateFreg Reggi
For the -41 degrees C. Joe: "Your freezer is pretty cozy compared to that environment." Me: Our temperature added to that, and still it would be 0 degrees freezing.

Hahahaha, no. Boeing was never even a consideration for negotiations about the C-Series. A lot of people seem to think, the whole take over had to do with Boeings ridiculous allogations against Bombardier and the C-Series sales to Delta, but that's not true. At the time when Boeing came up with that shit, the negotiations between Bombardier and Airbus were almost done. All they had left to do at this point was signing the contract. I can only imagine how hard the Airbus and Bombardier Chairmans had to laught about Boeings futile attempt, which only showed that Boeing had no fucking clue what was going on in the background. Bombardier wanted to sell the C-Series for some time acutally. They approached Airbus much earlier already, but Airbus wasn't intrested initially. Then they approached Embraer, but same thing, no interest to buy out the C-series project. Then Bombardier approached Airbus again with a more attractive offer and this time Airbus was interested and took over the whole project and production lines in the end.

I have a question. How do plan your flight? Are you plotting from one point to another? Do you draw the flight plan? Why are the flight points (the names are so randomized that the name is not even a word) are not perfectly aligned or fixed, and why are they scattered throughout the whole world? Are they randomized? Why every flight plan has a curve path to another dest?

I literally cried when I saw you were going on tour but I know I cannot go, not because the borders are closed off but because my family would have to come with me and Britain does have Covid-19 whilst my Country doesn't, I do not want to put them at risk so I cannot come, although I would love to. Hi there captain, I wish you are fully healthy and doing well. I would love you to talk about aircraft speeds(TAS,IAS,CAS,MACH NO). Thanks for your great contents.
Vor yearDick Darstardly
Captain Joe, I been wondering, for some time, if given the right circumstances, taking into consideration the speeds, stresses and strains on the airframe etc. Would it be possible to complete a loop de loop in a big jet ( heavy or super ) . I understand that the aircraft is not designed or built with this kind of move in mind. Purely from a scientific point of view, taking into account the way aircraft are over engineered and over powered. Would It complete the move, stall or simply fall apart ? I have been pondering this for some time and thought I know, I’ll ask Captain Joe.

Hi Joe. I want to learn more about how a twinjet operate when one engine fails. Can a twinjet Take-Off/Go-Around with only one engine? How to solve the imbalance as the thrust is concentrated on one side of the plane?
Vor yearZK-APA
ZF Ma yes a twin jet can take off/go around with a single engine. In fact all planes have a procedure for it and pilots do practice it during their checks. And the imbalance is generally balanced with the rudder trim

Vor yearZK-APA
Elijah Kennedy-Gibbens pilot ranks actually differ from airline to airline (captain generally remains the same) Basically 4 stripes = airline captain 3 stripes = senior first officer 2 stripes = first officer or junior first officer 1 stripe = second officer or equivalent Ps some airlines may start at 3 stripes even for the junior most pilot, and some starts at 1 stripe

Joe, in case of dual engine failure, why can't the APU provide minimum power? Why is the RAT needed?
Vor yearZK-APA
Ritujoy Chakraborty yes apu can provide power, but the thing about apu is that it takes a while to start up whereas rat is almost immediate Moreover, apu start may have a max altitude for startup with only batteries, so the aircraft has to descent before it can be started.
Vor yearVI M
Before, I had this little guess that Airbus bought the CS100/300 because it can potentially outperform the entire A320 family. Now, I'm a little more convinced that was the case 😄
Vor yearMagnificat
I have a question, why just before the landing the voice in the plane says: "retard" (at least I hear that)
Vor yearMagnificat
@MikeP Oh ok
Vor yearMikeP
The word means "slow down". It's callout to the pilots to pull the throttles back to idle at this stage of landing.
