Chad was so wrong about Othello. Viggo shouldn't be scared to play the part he isn't a racist why would anyone care? Who is that insecure?

Nah, Chad's right. There's a huge imbalance when it comes to white roles and POC roles. It's not really cool to whitewash POC roles, especially when it's a major part of the character. Othello is a dark-skinned Moor and many parts of the plot are affected by this fact (particularly his interracial marriage to Desdamona.) It would make zero sense for a white man to play Othello.

I always love how actors have to try to make acting sound so much more sophisticated and important than other jobs in the world. To me you never grew up and are still 7 years old running around the house playing make believe. As far as I'm concerned you're on the very bottom of life's pecking order as far as importance. A waitress has more world life cred than any actor does

My daughter is an actress, so lm watching this to learn for myself if in anyway l can help and advise her not being in the industry myself, and to feel closer to her when she's on set. I just wish l could stop crying over Chadwick. Outstanding actor doesn't come close.

Whit guy here. My favorite play growing up was A Raisin in the Sun. When I auditioned for acting classes I played Walter in his famous monologue about pride in the final act. I knew the character was black and the play focused on one part of the black American experience, but it didn’t matter. He was a compelling character whose story resonated with me on a personal level, so I did my best to make him my own, no camp, no stereotypes, just a man, a human being disenfranchised, marginalized, struggling to find his identity. Do I understand the black experience in America? No. But there’s a piece of every great character in each of us, rich or poor, black or white, that’s what makes them great characters, their capacity for universal appeal across time and arbitrary identity groups. All this to say there’s no reason you can’t have a white person, man or woman, play Othello. It won’t be the same character as a black Othello, and they won’t mean the same things to an audience. But if Othello is truly a great character, and he is, there’s a piece of him inside every one that we can all relate to, regardless of race, gender, or creed. Otherwise you’re suggesting that the only reason Othello resonates is because he’s black, take that away from him and there’s nothing compelling or relatable about that character. You’re claiming that his entire meaning, his value as a character is tied to his race. If you think I’m missing the point, please reply.
