Most films aren’t even good enough to garner theatrical releases and of those that do, 90% of them are still trash lmao. I’ve seen many, many worse films in my life than the Prequels and at least one entry in that trilogy I actually hold over the weakest of the OT tbh. Majority of critics even gave TPM favourable reviews (on RT actually it used to be at 55% favourable a month back which has now dropped to 51% which is super weird for a 20+ year old film. Still though, point stands that’s majority and most films are worse made and don’t get as favourable scores or perception) and that’s the only one I’d consider around average in filmic quality as the dialogue and editing is horrid, particularly when we’re first on Naboo (Though somehow the pacing is actually pretty intact and serviceable which I think is just due to the dialogue being so bland and minimal haha) but even that film has 2 moments among my favourites in cinematic history with the pod race and Duel of the fates. Overall that film is 50/50 but AOTC and especially ROTS are just good films riddled with bad moments. But my definition of a bad film is below average which the PT clearly don’t fit that definition of bad just because they’re obviously much, much better than most films ever made

He was one of the best parts for sure. Personally I cant say easily though with how much genius resides in that trilogy. For me the best part was probably still just the overall tragedy reminiscent of Shakespeare’s greats Othello and Macbeth about a capable warrior to ultimately fall to the corruption within spurred on by a malevolent manipulative external force, his love and his hostility towards the overbearing world and pressures surrounding him. Also Loved the rest of the characters, the world and story, complexity of morales and their interplay with systems in power and how AOTC was also a noir homage (one of my favourite movements and genres in all cinema) and just had a foreboding sense of doom throughout. That and ROTs had a really great sense of consistent tone which TPM was lacking. Truly has masterworks of film littered throughout each entry of the trilogy

It's really telling just how much of an incredible actor and personality Ewan McGregor is in how he so effortlessly filled Alec Guiness' shoes and so completely and embodied a character that wasn't his own to begin with and really made it his own. For a whole generation of Star Wars fans (and I count myself as one of them having grown up with the prequels) Ewan IS Obi Wan and seeing him come back to the role is definitely one of the most exciting things to happen in the Star Wars universe ever since the Disney takeover. I have high hopes for this series and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Ewan's performance of my favorite Jedi has changed and matured, hopefully something half way between PT and OT Obi Wan. Thank you Ewan for still giving to this fandom 23 years since you first took on this monumental role.

I was 7 years old when Star Wars A New Hope debuted in cinemas in my neck of the woods. I grew up with the mythos and the characters while recognising sir Alec and Pter Cushing as actors who I had seen in so many roles before. When the prequels were released I disliked the films as I felt they were Hollywood money grabs that disrespected the source material (I felt that George Lucas had sold out for nothing more than profit) That said, my opinion was that Ewan McGregor was a dream casting for the young Obi-Wan and was the best bit of the prequel films, closely shadowed by Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn. I am eagerly looking forward to Ewan reprising the role as his acting was every bit as good as Sir Alec's even when I hated the movies (II and III) The recent TV shows have been enjoyable and easily fit with episodes Iv, V, VI so I hope that Kenobi will fit well into the Star Wars legend that I enjoyed as a child and continue to enjoy to this day.

Honestly, seeing them enjoy it so much to play these characters makes me so happy. I know it’s important that a movie or series is good and all but if the actors have fun and can show it trough their performance that they’re having fun, I don’t even care if the movie is good or bad I’ll have fun anyway. Hayden and Ewan are so passionate about Star Wars, it’s like Mark 2.0 and I love it. Can’t wait!

@dbreiden83080 Well, I disagree with some of your statements…while I do agree that the dialogue and the romance in the movie were cheesy and cringy, it is due to the fact that George himself admitted he wasn’t very good at writing dialogue and romance, so that was probably a mistake on his part and he should have let a more suitable writer to come up with that part. The acting in itself wasn’t really that bad, but the dialogue is so weird that it makes the acting look worse than it is. I think that story wise the movie was pretty enjoyable, it gave us a direction to the story, showed Anakin’s fist steps to the dark side and introduced the clone wars, which created some of the best Star Wars content and characters ever on the tv show. It was a flawed movie yes, but I don’t think by far that it was the worst SW and it contributed to the lore far more than any of the sequels

@Gabriel Costa I would argue Episode 2 in particular was a huge waste of time, and maybe the worst SW movie. It was cheesy, goofy, likely the worst acted of any SW movie, featured no interesting plot points or villains IMO.. The love story between Anakin and Padme was pretty unbearable to watch. Episode 3 saved most of Hayden's legacy in SW by giving him strong dark material to work with.. And even then lets be honest his acting in Episode 3 was spotty at best..

The same cannot be said about the sequels, they are just all over the place and don’t really add anything but plot holes to the main continuity

0:32 I strongly recommend watching the long documentary of making Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The part where they show the process of practicing a lightsaber and the work on the fight choreography is pretty good. Then watch the behind the scenes of when Ewan and Hayden giving it their all for the climatic battle in Episode 3. These actors and the crew really put the actual effort in lightsaber dueling.

It's great to have Ewan back in Star Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but after what Disney pulled off with this franchise I fear this will series will be let down. We had plenty of great characters like Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade, Revan, Kyp Durron, and Luke Skywalker not Luke Hermitwalker, etc. In the new Star Wars, there is a non-new character memorable, maybe except Mando.

I love Obi-Wan Kenobi with my whole heart and despite me not having Disney+, Ewan coming back all these years later for this show is so amazing. He will be outstanding, along with Hayden as Darth Vader. 💙

The thing is that while his job seemed straightforward since the character was already an icon of 25 years, he could have done his own iteration and tried to have separated himself since he was so young and up and coming. Yet, instead he did the right thing for the character and focused super hard on emulating another amazing actors work a difficult task in its own right. And as a really young actor he choose to do the unselfish thing. Thank god for Star Wars and kudos to him.

It's a shame he and everyone else got so much hate for the prequels; sure, they weren't the best, but they never deserved all the vitriol they got. The prequels were enjoyable still even with their flaws. I'm glad they have another shot to show what they can do.

The fight between obi-wan, qui-gon and maul is still my favourite of all time. The sound design and music along with the choreography is top tier stuff.

That battle with Darth Maul is probably the best sabre battle in the entire saga. I grew up with the originals but long term I actually prefer the prequels now. There's more going on politically and subtly with the devious workings of Palpatine. Im glad Hayden is back too and getting more of that respect he deserves.

I sense a disturbance in the force. As if they will take a great and well designed character and use it for badly placed political messaging and bad writing. I so hope that they will write it more like the first Mandelorian. Episodes that continue with the previous one, no sudden solutions to the episode's problem at the last moment, no super-powerful female characters shoehorned in etc. Female characters is fine, but make them fit in! Let them be equal, let them support the male cast and the male cast support the female cast! You know, how Leia was the Damsel in distress but 10 seconds after her rescue she saves her rescuers, or how they collectively try to fix the hyperdrive, or each have their own complementary skills. Make it GOOD.

Got goosebumps hearing the music and then also seeing Ewan reminiscing about playing Obi Wan for the first time and coming back to play him again. I don’t care what others out there in the youtube ether have to say I’m pumped to see this series.
