There can be little doubt that the people of Britain that will still vote for Corbyn are mentally deranged. Those that support Johnson are at the very least settling for the best of a bad bunch. Who could be a viable alternative? Perhaps someone that has time and time again demonstrated his love of country, sacrificed time and energy to promote the cause of Britain throughout the world and always done his best for the nation. That the British people have repeatedly shunned Nigel Ferage demonstrates they are not worthy of saving.

@swave158 Both parties are guilty for doing nothing to reverse policy of previous governments. All the information is there is people care to find is, instead of just accepting the crap politicians throw out. in 1999 ‘New Labour’ marked the start of a transition of the NHS from a public sector provider to include the private sector under the disguise of choice and competition. New Labour’s reforms of the NHS proved to be highly unpopular both within and outside the mainstream Labour Party. https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/ournhs/moment-of-honesty-is-required-new-labour-began-dismantling-of-our-nhs/

"What if no party wins a majority?" In what way is it worrying? I will admit I did not completely understand the idea of a hung parliment until this video, as it will be my first time voting this election. A hung parliment is a specific situatuation and a lot of people, especially younger voters, can benefit from an short explanation. I would assume the majority of British people over 25 are familiar with the idea. I wonder how many Americans understand your voting system and agree with it...

The documents found about the UK Government meetings with USA officials are a game changer and if they are not, they damn well ought to be. All the issues of trust in Johnson and the lying Tories are to the fore. Even the detail about how to sell Chloronated Chicken to the public are illustrative of the shafting that is being planned. There are far worse practices than that, such as hormone grown beef and Pork or the use of the strongest reserve Anti-biotics in daily animal feed in USA. The opening up of UK public services to American Corporations and the compensation to them by the UK should they fail in their bids, are just the outrageous TTIP warmed up again after being rejected by the EU. How on earth could that be "Taking back control" or any cost savings. If the public fail to see the implications of this one and don't throw Johnson out on his ear then they will deserve everything coming for them down the line and I would urge young people to start planning their way out of this shyster fest of a country the Tories plan now. Those of us past that can start to save to up to go Organic.

As a socialist, I find this video reasonably fair. There are two phrases which have been worded slightly against Labour: 1. "Jeremy Corbyn's party hasn't committed yet to leave or remain. Actually, that statement is not true. In fact Labour is leaving that one up to the people to decide. 2. "Labour are keen to get the conversation away from Brexit." Again, not true. Labour does not have a view on Brexit (see 1), but sees other issues as being important, such as the NHS.

Lamster66 Christ you literally quoted the BBC word for word in your second to last paragraph. Prorogation by definition can not be unlawful, it is normal constitutional procedure. The last 3 years has been utter chaos purely because parliament has been trying to block Brexit through any pathway they can; be it litigation, private prosecution, appeals, billblocking and general disruptions, how democratic of them. Fact is regardless of all the smoke and mirrors and bashing of the tories, people still wouldn’t vote for labour. Why would they? What do they stand for? On Brexit the only policy they have is delay and ‘we’ll get a better deal’, at least the Lib Dems actually stand for something. And now he’s trying to clutch votes with overreaching immaterial promises of free tuition etc, a policy that the country knows he can’t afford.

All member nations will become states of the new federal nation of the EU by 2022 as clearly laid out in the Lisbon treaty with no exceptions or veto. 3: All member states must adopt the Euro by 2022 and any new member state must do so within 2 years of joining the EU as laid down in the Lisbon treaty. 4: The London stock exchange will move to Frankfurt in 2020 and be integrated into the EU stock exchange resulting in a loss of 200,000 plus jobs in the UK because of the relocation. (This has already been pre-agreed and is only on a holding pattern due to the Brexit negotiations, which if Brexit does happen, the move is fully canceled - but if not and the UK remains a member it’s full steam ahead for the move.)

@Lamster66 no it doesn't unless agreed by all member states and when the treaty provision kicks in its null and void as a federal state of Europe is obliged to follow all federal warrants ; 1:The EU Parliament and ECJ become supreme over all legislative bodies of the UK. 2: The UK will adopt 100% of whatever the EU Parliament and ECJ lays down without any means of abstention or veto, negating the need for the UK to have the Lords or even the Commons as we know it today.

In the last 10 yrs richest 1 per cent in UK increased wealth by 500bn whilst austerity cut services. Labour are smeered as unable to manage the economy. But under last labour gov growth rates were higher than this gov. Labour plan to raise corporation tax to 26 per cent. A middle rate for developed countries. Increased tax revenue will pay for increased health and education budgets. It is extreme to vote in another Conservative gov that have achieved nothing except political chaos. Even borrowing and National debt are up on 2010. Taking a neutral position on Brexit is also sensible as the country is so split.

@bunny jin Why should he? Everyone's entitled to their own political views. 'phoney' can be subjective. What may seem 'phoney' to him may not seem phoney to you. I'm not a big fan of Corbyn, in 2017 he said he would support a sensible deal to leaving the EU, now he wants a second referendum as well. He wants to increase tax from 19% to 26%. That seems like a big jump and may mean businesses will move to different countries so they don't pay UK tax. There is increasing uncertainty, as we haven't left the EU yet which is not good for business, and raising taxes will make matters worse. If Corbyn becomes prime minster he might destroy the economy. Before everyone attacks me, I'm not a far right conservative, I just want our country to be successful.

As people have commented here there is little differently between whoever is in power in terms of the economy. But Labour do tend to improve services and wages. As choices now the two main parties are as far apart as at anytime since the 2nd WW. On such forums as this there is not much scope to go into too much detail. I am trying to campaign a little as what the Conservatives have done in the last nine years has been appalling. And I genuinely believe the current leaders cannot be trusted at all and do not care for ordinary people. I do think this Labour Party will improve services greatly and bring more equality into the country. Economically I can't see there being a great difference between the two. Aside from the obvious smeer campaign against Corbyn it is hard to understand what the opposition of what might be normal left leaning voters is. The default position is a Boris Johnson led gov and if with it gains a majority the potential to role back labour protection and open up the country to more deregulation and more inequality. Yes people are fed up with politics in the UK. Totally understandable. I am dismayed. But we risk bringing in the most far right gov we will have had in living memory. A real friend of Trump. The facts on statistics I have stated in various posts can all be checked. In nine years the NHS waiting list has doubled. The police force cut. And students have been charged higher fees at an interest rate of 6per cent. The gov has loaned this money at 0.5per cent. Homelessness has increased rapidly. I only mention four facts here. Many others could be written. We have not even handed back an archipelago of islands in the Indian Ocean which we forcibly evicted thousands of citizens from in order to let the US build a military base in the 1960s. This is 2019. Not the cold war period, but this gov will not even right a great injustice like this and instead flouts international law to maintain control. Everyone chooses who to vote on from genuine convition. Nobody deliberately votes in people to be worse off. I can only urge people to check facts and make informed decisions. Corbyn plans no more to turn the UK into a socialist state than he is an anti Semitic or a friend of mullahs in Iran or a person who ever condoned IRA violence. But I would guess just as it seems Trump gets directly involved in politics in the Ukraine for personal benefit that some in the Conservative Party are not above such actions themselves. Sad to say that the in the end I think the Tories will win out. Too much false information has stuck. That together with abuse and ridiculing people I believe is in the ascendency and has not reached its zenith. Hopefully instead of feeling despair I can start to laugh about it. There is little else to be done.

Labour policies are based on knowledgeable analysis of the profoundly serious issues of our time, such as Artificial Intelligence, the looming mass employment from the fourth industrial revolution, the need for work/ life balance, the extreme political inequality resulting from extreme economic inequality, climate crisis and so on. From the Tories we get nothing but disjointed soundbites functioning much as embarrassing coughs, as mounting deception attempts to conceal the accelerating exploitation by a miserly self- interest intend on engorging its own entitlement at the cost of rapidly expanding social exclusion and rising impoverishment. The comparison between the genuine and the fake, could not be clearer. One wants to enhance life for us all, the other merely to shovel more lucre into its own grubby pockets.

Yes absolutely the purpose of election is to get Brexit done. Those Jeremy and Swinson have no British value. They are a career politicians not for the country and people. Whatever Labour and Lib Dem are saying is a trick to steal vote. Please do not make hung parliment again to ruin the country.

@Mike Brexiters are stalking horses for the other side of a trade war by the US against Europe. The Brexit vote was a gerrymandered, ‘bait & switch’, corrupt, dishonest referendum, that weaponises the impulses of an under-educated population, and serves no interests except those of foreign trade blocks, tax evaders and currency speculators. Brexit is the will of foreign Oligarchs whose electronic micro-campaigning duped a minority into supporting an entirely incompatible set of epically destructive fantasies. This mass civil harm for personal gain sells an entire country, indeed it sacrifices the whole continent. Brexit was never about regaining our sovereignty, it was always about selling it to the US, for private gain. The Oligarchs are causing havoc in the world: Soros shorting the Bank of England and then the Euro, Paulson shorting the Prime Loan market leading to the crash of 2008 and now Brexit with its cast of shorts. Brexit came after fourty years of tabloid lies against the EU, many admittedly perpetrated by Boris Johnson and during the Brexit campaign, electoral law was broken by the Brexiters. People were told barefaced lies, by the Brexit campaigns and now Brexitters are controlling the government, lies are perpetrated at an unprecedented rate. Brexit Head campaigner Dominic Cummings is in Contempt of Parliament for refusing to disclose the source of the Brexit funding. Had the vote been binding, British electoral law would have compelled the overturning of the vote and the conducting of a new referendum. One of the many Brexit ironies is that because it was not binding, the courts declined to compel a second referendum. Brexit is the defining issue of our time and therefore the processes should be scrupulously observed. Such an historic decision requires informed consent, not manipulation. Brexiters are trying to take away what is most precious to us after those whom we love, our citizenship in the greatest civilisation that history has bestowed upon humanity. Boris should not be attempting Brexit without the support of the British people and he does not have it. The evidence has been provided by The National Centre for Social Research that the majority of Brits want to stay in the EU. All the lies in his world of deception, cannot disguise the facts. And still the Brexiters lie about democracy being on the side of Brexit! Brexit is not wanted by the majority. A policy should change whenever it does not have a democratic mandate. The statistical evidence [John Curtice 2019 EURef2 Poll of Polls, The National Centre for Social Research], is that Brexit does not have a democratic majority in support. Therefore it should not proceed. All the more so due to the demographic changes. Since the referendum, so many elderly Brexiters have died and so many young Remainers have aged up into the electorate, that Brexit does not have majority support. Following the votes of the dead and denying votes to the young, this is Necrocracy not Democracy. It is Brexiters who are denying the democratic rights of the British people when they say we can’t have a second referenda and people who aged from 15 to 18 can’t have a first vote. But dead people definitely do not have the right to have their votes counted among calculations of the “will of the people.” They are not among the people. They are dead people. Wills concern people's personal property rights, but all other rights end with death. To allow the wishes of the deceased to bind the living beyond death would be entirely arbitrary- where would you draw the line? Are we to be bound by Medieval witch burners, or the Spanish Inquisition? No, it is only sane that democracy counts the wishes of the living, not the dead

... do you know the definition of communism? God forbid you ever live in Scandinavia or most countries in the EU if you think that what the labour party is proposing is communism. The fact that the 'red scare' is still a thing is laughable. If you would just engage in the discourse regarding their manifesto maybe youd think otherwise. Would you call the creation of the NHS a communist scheme?

There is no doubt this is an important election. A lot of seats will change hands, and we all know there are many reasons for this. I'm picking the Labour seats are the ones to watch. Just look at which groups are refusing to vote Labour - the Indian community, anyone of Jewish descent, and the 5 million Labour voters that voted to leave will have difficulty voting Labour this time. This will have a massive effect in Britain's rust belt. Labour seats will be lost, it is just a question as to which party picks them up.

Vor 11 Monate
David Cockayne

@Gerald J M Petrie Polls can and do get things wrong; in 2015, for example, they underestimated the Tory vote by 6%. So let's say that the Brexit Party vote is out by 10%: giving them a possible 4.4%. No, let's give them a 50% boost, which increases their share to 6%. Still not enough to get a single seat or have any real influence on the outcome. Short of a Crimea scenario, which seems unlikely, it's difficult to see how the Brexit Party can get a boost which will give them a sniff of power. PS: Can't speak for others but I spurned the metro-lefty-BBC and their ilk a long time ago.

Ah! More people that believe the pollsters, and what they are fed on poor man's tv. The more the media ignore the Brexit Party, and the more people say they will not get anywhere, will only galvanize the resolve of the leave voter; they will get out and vote in any weather. Remainers will stay inside by the heater.

Vor 11 Monate
