I just had a 2021 TLX AWD as a loaner car for my 2006 TSX being serviced. It's better in every way except the handling. For some reason, the TSX is just more fun to drive and communicates better how the road is feeling and what the car is doing. TSX is a better daily driver in this regard.

lol as a previous TSX owner, that was a great car, but you cannot compare a 16 year old TSX to this TLX. This TLX is way more refined, handles better, much more power etc. That TSX was SLOW! it was a much smaller car, same size as a civic, thats why its felt liked it handles better.

After purchasing one of these, an advance AWD, I gotta say that they perform really well. I was prepared to put a deposit on for an s type, but by the time the test drive was over the whole car felt like a complete package. Fun driving dynamics, amazing stereo (super important given its impossible to modify modern cars) and incredible comfort. Coming from a 13 taurus sho, I could not be more happy. Car is seriously refined! I do wish I could get that quad tip exhaust that the s type has, though!

I might be an odd duck but I disagree people wouldn't cross shop japanese cars with german cars. I tried both the 3 series (g20) and this TLX, to be perfectly honest the TLX was more comfortable maybe marginally less fun. But I bought the 330e instead, because of incentive, gas cost and the better controls for display. Otherwise, the TLX is actually a surprisingly good vehicle especially compared to what Lexus is offering in that segment.

For those that are wondering- this is SPOT ON. I bought my '21 TLX last week after trading in my 2020 TLX 3.5 V6. Prior to that, I traded in my 180,000 mile 2012 TSX 4 banger. If you care about that V6 sound, then you won't find it here. Aside from that, in my opinion, this car is lightyears ahead of its predecessor. I have to tell you... This car was (selfishly) built for me. Exactly as they said- a Type R engine in a luxury vehicle. The interior is head and shoulders above the 2020. It's a responsive, fast car. Prior to the 2020, I had a 2012 TSX 4 banger- this drives NOTHING like that. I'm 32 years old- as much as I'd LOVE to drive an STI, I just don't want something that "in your face." Does that make sense? This feels... Really cool to drive, and cool to pull into my office garage as I wave to my CEO. It's absolutely wonderful- it feels faster than the 2020 V6, the interior is lightyears ahead (as is the infotainment system) of the previous version, it's all around a MUCH better drivers car. Not a sport drivers car, but just as someone who's a daily commuter that drives mostly highways but wants some extra punch in the city. That's not to say it's NOT sporty, especially if you want the sport aesthetic that comes with the A-Spec version, it's just not an M series BMW... Or an AMG Mercedes. Or a 911, or an Audi RS. Nor should it be. If you're looking for that, cough up another 10K at minimum, and be prepared for a basic package. LOOK AWAY NOW- this is not your vehicle. Hope this helps for anyone considering- enjoy!

I didn't need to own/lease this car to know very quickly what I would be in for in the long haul: The steering is ridiculously sharp and responsive (especially on the SH-AWD), the powertrain delivers quick and strong acceleration, the driving position is good, and the craftsmanship is far superior to the 1st-Gen TLX. However, and a BIG HOWEVER, for a (now) Acura flagship sports sedan, the ride is unbearable (at least on the TLX Tech Package without the Adaptive Dampers that come only on Advance Package models). On New England city roads, the new TLX rode so stiff, I thought I was in my colleagues Ford Mustang (minus the refinement)... that's how rough the ride was. Having lease a 1st-Gen TLX, and know how refined (albeit, less sporty) the ride was, Acura hit no middle-ground here. In comparison, I drove an Audi A5 Sportback prior to the new TLX and that was the kind of ride-quality I was expecting out of this new TLX: tight but with some dampening, and certainly never jarring. Considering how much bigger the TLX is compared to the A5 (it's closer to the A7 in dimensions), I'm amazed at how much worse the ride was. Another side note: the road noise from the tires was also very intrusive. I'm highly disappointed, as I had an amazing lease deal on the table and I just couldn't pull the trigger. It was a car I wanted to love and I couldn't. PLEASE... if you're considering it, make sure your test drive isn't just on freshly-paved highways... request a back-road route as well!

Vor 3 Monate

I had a 4th generation Acura TL with some serious transmission issues. The gears would slip, or had a hard time getting into third. Honda/Acura refused to remedy the situation and only sent out a TSB much later after the fact. Within the TSB, Honda refused to do anything if your car had greater than 105,000 miles or was purchased more than 5 years ago (whichever came first). In other words, they purposely waited in hopes to have the majority of the cars outside that range before sending out the TSB. Mines was at 110,000 miles at the time, so I did not qualify; despite documenting my transmission issues THREE separate times at two different Acura dealerships. I ended up taking my transmission to a highly reviewed independent specialist. I was told that this particular transmission had an inherent design flaw to where not enough fluid could get to third gear. This explained why the third gear was such an issue. In the end, the specialist mentioned that nobody would fix these for that reason and my best bet would be to get a junkyard transmission and expect it to break sooner or later. The comment about Acura not breaking and standing for reliability may hold true for their engines. However, their transmissions have always been known to be finnicky (in the past) and they've proven themselves to act without honor when issues arise. For those reading this comment, just set your expectations and know Honda/Acuras are not bullet proof.

Just so wrong about the 3 series. It's more expensive but its also more car, and it shows in every way. It is *definitely* more fun, shifts better, has a better interior (without fake wood and plastic everywhere), and perhaps the elephant in the room, it just handles and drives better. For fucks sake, this car takes a whopping 7 seconds to get to 60; Camary's will be passing you. For comparison, the 4 cylinder 330 (with 38 horsepower less) can do the sprint in only 5.4 seconds and it also gets better fuel economy. With literally any metric you can think of, the 3 series is objectively better as a luxury sport sedan. If you want a 4 door econobox-like cruiser with a slightly better interior than an accord, then sure. This makes sense. But if you want a luxury sport sedan with even a mild sense sportiness and refinement, the 3 series is the winner, hands down. And for mark to heavily downplay that one IS significantly better than the other, and pretend as though Acura isn't trying to be a 3 series (it is; they have multiple YouTube ads comparing the two (disguised as actual reviews to fool people)) reeks a bit like a hipster who just hates something that's extremely popular without any valid reasons to do so. Still love the videos Mark, i just think you've got some contrarian bias or what have you because of some hype around the 3 series over the years. Yes, it can be overplayed but for the most part, the fundamentals of the hype are true. The 3 series is the class leading benchmark and has been since it's release, which is why every modern compact luxury sports car (including this one) develops and tests against it, similar to how every modern sports car is tested against a damn 911 in development, since it too is the benchmark for a sports car; perhaps not coincidentally, you're not a huge fan of the 911 either for the very same hipster bias you have going on with the 3 series. It's a theme that could be done without. Just review a car like the 3 series without thinking anything about the hype or the brand, and I have no doubt you wouldn't bash it so much if you can praise this average machine so much.

21:05 Maybe it's because I'm literally the same age as Jack but I 100% agree about the old Acura TL. The third-generation Acura TL from 2004 to 2008 was such a huge step over its predecessor and in context was amazing for the time because of how it defined Acura's ethos going forward. If you take a look at Acura's full-line brochure from 2003 and compare it to the Acura full-line brochure from 2004, you'll notice how every single car in the 2003 brochure is parked and staid whereas every car in the 2004 brochure (the year they introduced the TSX and TL sedans) is in motion and feels engaging. https://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US%20Full%20Line_2003.pdf https://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US%20Full%20Line_2004.pdf The new 2021 Acura TLX is obviously a better car, there's no question about that, but it doesn't move Acura forward in the same way the old TL did.

As for the toddlers using knobs and buttons and switches comment, sadly these days kids are using more touch screens than anything else. The ipad was released in 2010 which sparked the tablet revolution, so lets say 2013 is when parents started handing their kids tablets rather than toys, and it became mainstream by 2016, that means starting in 2028, kids getting their license will be more comfortable with touch screens and less comfortable with knobs and switches, and by 2031 most new drivers will hate having to use knobs and buttons instead of screens, and I'd say by 2040 new cars having knobs and buttons and switches for basic functions rather than having them in the infotainment would be seen as a reason not to buy a car.

Vor 5 Monate
savagegeese
savagegeese

@James I think even when cars go full autonomous there will always be a place for true mechanical inputs for certain functions. While the car has become an experimental playground, the same arguement could be made for household functions such as doors cabinets faucets, stove/range/microwaves (which many have backt racked on touch). I think you will see a peak and reversion in touch UI.

Vor 5 Monate

@savagegeese I never said it would be for the better of people, if anything it will just cause more accidents, but when you combine consumer demand with driving aids that get better every year, buttons will be phased out

Vor 5 Monate

The US Navy moved to touchscreen controls. They announced in 2019 they are removing all of them which will take two years and return to physical controls because of so many issues with usability. As long as we have hands and fingers optimized for grabing and feeling, physical controls will always be optimal. Infants and toddlers interact with a physical environment before screens. Milestones are always, figuring out twisting, pushing, pulling, holding things and the biggest thing eating and using spoons and forks. Touchscreen use comes far later.
