Aaron Gordon's downfall in this contest was that he set the bar too high for the judges with his first two dunks, that his last two dunks seemed a little underwhelming compared to those first two gems. If he had done his dunks in reverse, he would have won for sure. I rank his dunks from worst to best in this order: 4, 3, 1, 2

this was something special, even old guys like me can really appreciate the athleticism and skill these two guys displayed that year. They did things never seen before, just like what Jordan did in the 80's and Vince Carter after that, this one sadly was the last good contest in my opinion.

Its absolutely the best finally to a dunk contest ever. Period. They had to go into overtime and do more dunks then usual in the finals and I still could of watched em do 5 more dunks each. I've seen pretty much every dunk contest ever and this is the best one. It just is.

How underrated was Gordon’s final dunk? Try replicating that dunk on a mini hoop at 7-8 feet. Most folks would be on the way down after the tomahawk move 😆. The fact he double clutched and brought the dunk back between the legs is impressive. I’m with Kenny Smith. That dunk is difficult to pull off.

The main issue is that Gordon's "sit down" dunk was worth more than 50 but that's the limit. Lavine's free-throw line windmill was a legit 50 dunk but wasn't on the level of Gordon's. Either way, still the greatest dunk-off in NBA history.
