Singapore is a great country to live in but there were a few things that would've made my life a little easier, had I known them beforehand. I'm hoping this video helps some people make the transition a little easier.

Hi there random person reading further into the description than most people. How's it going?
If you're curious, I'm a performer from Australia, getting paid to dress up in costume and travel the world. I make videos about expat living, travel, performing and other fun stuff. If you like any of the above, I upload a few times a week so might I suggest the subscribe button?

green tea isn't weatern and western stuff are not best or clean either , western food isn't even pure , so its not world loved but to please yourl its been done on a cleaner scale thats what makes it higher with price , lastly these guys sleeping on the floor are all foreigners from Bangladesh india pakistan that are cheap labour , they work hard to make the place to be admired for people like you , thus they sleep there during the hard labour work times so they don't travel and pay that money and lose time , that money they save and send to their families abroad , something you people never ever did because yourl are used to spending the monies that was taken away by the west

In my view from the ex-pats I have met from Europe, for them, it is not always about embracing brave curiosity but it is mostly about fear, confusion, and to a degree some prejudice. I don't mean to offend anyone it is just my observation from living abroad. I have met Singaporeans in Europe and they were very laid back, happy, and always looking at the positive side of things, hardly I hear them saying I was "shocked", or "confused".I find it strange you will be confused/shocked about construction workers sleeping on the floor? Does it even affect your daily life in some sort if someone decided to sleep on the floor or on the train as people do in Japan?!

I forgot to mention fir those that want to visit Singapore. We DON'T have, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, sandstorms or any of the natural disasters that you see around the world. We only have nice sunny weather all year round n rain. That is normal weather all round the world, albeit some don't have so much rain or sunny weather

Western culture n Asian culture is totally different. You call you parents by their title, dad n mum. Yet when your friends come over they call your parents by names, like John or Mary. We call our elders, be it your friends parents or people that u may not be related to, Uncle n Aunty, or of respect for the elders. Flip Flops. I've been wearing it since I can remember. It's not like what you have described it to be. It's how you walk with it. You don't slide or drag your feet, especially when the ground is wet. You lift your leg, as such you won't have that sliding feeling about it. Taxi drivers r all the same all over the world. I travel a lot n most of not all taxi drivers always pretend that they do not know the location. FYI it's a requirement by the LTA (Land Transport Authority) that all taxi driver have to have a street directory in their taxi. Westerns always have the believe that hawker stalls r filthy whilst restaurants r very clean. It may be true in some countries. But in Singapore, we have SFA (Singapore Food Authority) staff checking on food stalls everyday. They get fined for anything that is considered unhygienic practice or habits. E.G. Smoking within the stall. Using bare hands to handle food that has already been cooked ( Not raw food ). Preparing or putting food on the floor. The raw food has to be of a certain height above ground ( not sure of the exact height ). Unclean utensils, cracked plates, bowls, Chinese spoons, cups or mugs. Putting the wrong form of meat. E.G. If you are selling Mutton Soup but replace it with Beef, not only will you be fined but suspended too. This is because of religious grounds. Indians don't take beef as it's one of their goods. So by serving them beef instead of mutton, it is wrong. You say our buses r so cold because if the aircon. You must be joking. I lived here all my life n I've never taken a bus ride that was cold even when it rains. It must be your own body, not being able to handle cold. FYI i go to London almost every year in December to watch football n after the two weeks i dread coming back to the hot n humid climate in Singapore. It's obvious that if you go to places of 5 or 6 star status, expect to pay a high price for the goods or services provided to you. Even when I'm in London I don't eat at restaurants along May Fair. I go to Paddington, Bayswater or Chinatown in Soho. The food is equally good if not better. In fact my favourite is Four Seasons restaurant at Bayswater. The food is so good n reasonable. Yes, you can buy anything in Singapore, as long as you r willing to pay, it's not a problem. I see more Ferraris n Lamborghinis in Singapore, than the 2 times I was in Italy. So obtaining what you want is not a problem. Sleeping on the road. Those r Indian nationals working in Singapore. For those who r visiting Singapore for the first time. Please take note that Singapore is a multinational country. Besides the Singapore Chinese, malays, Indians n Eurasians, we have the same of these 4 races from Malaysia working here. We have people from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Hongkong, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Taiwan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh n middleeastern nationals all working in Singapore. We also have expats from NZ,Australia, Europeans countries, Britain, American, south Americans n Canadian working in Singapore or living here. So if you approach anyone for information or directions n if the person sounds rude, unhelpful or unfriendly, it may not neccessarily be a Singaporean. It maybe someone from the neighbouring countries. You fail to mention that Singapore is one of the least corrupted countries in the world. Don't try to bribe a policeman or anyone of authority. You will definitely regret your actions. You will be charged in court, fined, jailed n deported. You'll never be allowed into Singapore again. Littering, spitting, smoking in restricted areas, drinking alcohol after 1030pm, will get you a ticket to the court. I suggest that the first thing you do if you r lazy to look up the laws, go to Bugis Juntion n buy a T Shirt that displays the Don'ts in Singapore. It tells you what you can't do. Also drug traffickers face the death penalty in Singapore. Generally, Singapore is very clean. As for the rain. We r an island so rain is quite normal. So if you intend to come to Singapore for a holiday, you r most welcome but dont forget what has been written. BTW as I mentioned we have four cultures n races in Singapore. So we have four festive celebrations. Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya ( for Muslims ) n Deepavali for Hindus. So if you r here during any one of these dates you can see the decorations according to the festive season.

A tip for broke tourists: If u're only planning to spend money on tourists spots, get hotel at a local places like Choa Chu Kang or Kranji cause food and clothes would be cheaper then tourists spots like Marina bay sands cause if u're going to live there, every single thing is gonna be overly priced.

Hawker Food Court A rating is next to impossible as there are no borders Nor boundaries for occasionally rodents n pest. B n C are quite normal. D ....if displayed ... nobody buys here n it’s easier for stall owner to shut down , clean-up n get fresh rating with daily S.O.P. in place E .. o Wah .... no comments ? Every food handler is supposed to attend a compulsory NEA hygiene n food handling course n be certified.

As a man, I often think that the caning that is imposed in Singapore as a deterrent to sex crime (and other crimes as well) is probably a very effective way of promoting safety and respect for women. FYI, most of us speak "Singlish" among ourselves. But when we speak to foreigners, we tend to communicate better. About the accent, you cant run awsy from it unless you are raised in London. Even in UK, you have the Cockney accent. I am sure to those speaking Queen's English, the American accent needs a bit of getting used to. But b/c the US overtook the UK to become a global power after WW2, the American accent has come to be regarded as another universal standard of English pronunciation.

It's not just low skilled migrant workers who sleep during break times. Scientists/engineers do too. I did an Internship in Singapore with one of the government's scientific research labs. People are generally hard working and have a much better work ethic compared to most people in the west. But it's not uncommon for people to power nap for half an hour at their desk. Looking forward to being a (British) expat in Singapore. The few months I've spent there were the best moments of my life!
