Am I the only one with a male guinea pig?

Ever heard your guinea pigs make chirping sounds like a bird? One of mine does every now and then. Still can’t decide what it means...

One of mine does it too. She do it every night before she's "rollig" (don't know the english word, on german it means, she want sex 🤣)

Oh woah! Didn’t know guinea pigs were just chasing and not mating, we had two piggies, both girls, and one of them is quite dominant and used to always jumped on the other. 😂 Sadly the not dominant piggie passed away two weeks ago, so we got a male guinea pig. (Casterated and all). We had to have them be apart for about two weeks and today they will go into one cage which eachother! I’m curious if the girl piggie will still jump the male haha

I had a collection of perfeclty happy female and a happy boar guinea pigs. But then one loud, intolerant, aggressive and purple haired guinea pig started claiming that there was no biological difference between female and male guinea pigs and that all sex was a product of in cage programming and is a product of cage systemic oppression. I now only have sad guinea pigs.

Mine just popcorns all around the pen all day bc when we get them out we put them on the floor and that’s what he does everyday it so funny and cute

Actually after reading many articles neutering males does not change the behavior. The only reason a male should be neutered as if it's being paired with a female and you don't want offspring.

Im lucky when it comes to fighting i just got 2 females and when i introduced them they scuffled for a few minutes and then boom best friends like im talking inseparable its adorable but kinda odd

When my piggies sleep, they make small squeaking noises, I have had so many thought that they were on their last legs, but no they are just talking in their sleep

I had one piggy who used to sleep so deeply - sometimes, not always - but if you didn't know her you'd think she was dead! At times she wouldn't even respond to being touched unless you outright tried to move her. Once when I left others in charge of taking care of my pigs for a few days, they called me and said "I think Sandy is dead." I said "Try to pick her up to make sure" and actually she was fine. I still have one of her offspring who also sleeps deeply with eyes closed at times but he wakes up reliably if he smells a carrot or treat near his nose. This does appear to be uncommon though - piggies usually sleep very lightly and wake at the lightest touch or even a sound.

My skinny scared me the first time I had her out of the cage so I could clean it she fell asleep and I didn’t know they slept with their eyes open I walked in and she was just laying there and not moving and I got so scared

When I first got my 2 boys almost 2 years ago, they got along just fine! Then when they got a little bit older the bigger boy started to bully the littler one. I know you said chasing is normal but this was like the bigger one wouldn’t let the other one eat or drink or anything. He even drew blood once. Not a lot of blood. It was a small droplet but still. After that I just didn’t feel comfortable having them together. But I’ve always wondered if I had given them more time together, would they have become friends again?

Sometimes when boys get older and they are in more than groups of 2 they tend to bully and possibly k*ll the other one because they are Ike "I'm the boss,I'm big and this is my cage!" So maybe if you got them around the same age possibly it could have worked out but I'm not sure I'm not an expert

Is it normal that my guinea pig purrs a lot. Like when I scratch behind her ears she sometimes purrs. Or if she walks up to me to say hello during floor time she will purr and lay like a pancake. Does this mean she's happy or unhappy?

I roomed a pet rat i had with my 4year old piggy, cages were side by side and I eventually they became rooms and stayed rooms for the rest of both there lifes, great pets but a toddler with piggys isn't going to make bonding or trust with the parent easier, I try so hard and I just wanna grab them and cuddle o so cute squish squish

My Guinea Pigs love getting clean new blankies. They get very excited. They make lots of noise and get the zoomies. It's super cute to watch! They also know the words 'snack' and 'play'. If I say snack they run to the snack bowl talking the whole way. If I say, "Do you want to go play?" they; start squealing, run to a litter box, potty, then run up to the 2nd story of their cage and hold very still so I can pick them up.

What does it mean if your guinea pig is shaking its whole body back and forth sideways? Cant find it but Ive seen mine do that sometimes, only once in a while. Is it fine or something to be worried about? And if it does mean something is wrong can anyone send a link explaining it? My mom says its nothing to worry about and she would need to drive us to the vet if thats needed. Im really not sure

I tried to bond my female guinea pigs but one of them started making the sound with her teeth so I separated them, but they started looking for each other and I’m confused, also, one of them started to popcorn

Normal behavior! They are figuring out who is the dominant one. It's fine if "fights" break out sometimes. But if it's really serious you should keep them away. But based on what you said, i reccomend you put them back together.

Katie starts chirping like a birr almost out of the blue. No one knows why guinea piggies do this.

Katie does this "pee-shooting" at JellyBean a lot. She's spayed, but JellyBean isn't neutered, so he follows her around. They snatch food from each other, too. Even when I give them each the same amount which is pretty much ALL the time. These two have little attitudes. They'll look at you if you're talking about them like they're not in the room.

my first Guinea pig did something weird one day, Gus Gus was stretched out, like he looked like he grew 4 inches, kinda like a ferret would look, he wouldn't move, i immediately took him out and got him by himself, i cared for him separately but he died, oh it was heartbreaking. Sorry to spoil the mood i was just sharing to possibly save a pig life out there. Thanks again for all your tips.

I don't know if there's a proper name for it, but I call it the 'rumblestrutt' when a particularly dominant piggie does that weird stomping thing with it's back legs while rumbling to intimidate the other pig. Not all pigs do it, mostly the bossy ones.

My boys (both related) are so mean to each other and I got spooked after I caught them a few times being overly aggressive, so I've kept them separated for awhile now. Should I put them back together? I just don't want either of them getting hurt.

When my guinea pig jumps my brothers guinea pig (Mines a girl and my brothers is a boy) I just sit there and laugh because I realized Tiny (My brothers guinea pig) just lost to Razor (My guinea pig) But it then turns cute when they start cuddling each other (Their adults but tiny acts like a little baby which is cute and mine, she's as lazy as me but at least we cuddle each other sometimes) in all total I have 3 guinea pigs (2 females and 1 male, one female is a baby the other is an adult same with the male. The adult female is razor, the baby female is Flopsy (She has a missing ear which we though was cute) !She's gotten used to loud noises! So she's usually calm around random noises) Their all also a bit over protective which is nice.

I tried getting a second guinea but our guinea wouldn’t have it so we returned him..we had our 1st one for about 5 months maybe that’s the mistake I made but he is well loved he seems content being the only one 🤷🏽‍♀️
