Came across a tip for small nails, brads. Use a hair comb, put nail in the teeth to hold, then hammer away, no smashed fingers.

My tip is that if you have a Japanese pull saw take a file and round the end of the blade where the teeth end away from the handle. That corner is incredibly sharp for no reason and finding that cost me 4 stitches in my arm. The teeth don't seem to go to the end so rounding it has no impact on the saw performance.

i keep a pack of old playing cards around to spread around wood glue. works like a charm, and afterwards you can just discard them(i'll see myself out now)
