We were crowned champions of the Women’s Super League for the first time since 2012, as we defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 at the Amex on Sunday.
Vivianne Miedema opened the scoring with a stunner worthy of winning any game - and this set the tone for what would be a wonderful afternoon.
The hosts’ gameplan was clear from the off. They wanted to sit deep on the edge of their box in a bid to limit space in the final third, but that gameplan was instantly thrown out the window thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Miedema.
The 22-year-old received the ball 20 yards from goal, checked onto her right foot and fired a rocket into the back of the net off the bar for her 31st goal of the season.
This filled us with confidence and allowed us to take full control of the game, with Katie McCabe doubling our advantage on the half-hour mark.
Having found a pocket of space on the edge of the box, Miedema played an inch-perfect pass over the Brighton defence and into the path of McCabe, who found the bottom right corner with a first-time finish.
Following the break, we continued to play our free-flowing football, and this brought about two goals in quick succession.
First Beth Mead found the top right corner with a stunning effort from 25 yards, before Danielle van de Donk made it four with a smart finish from the edge of the area.
Our seven-year wait has finally come to an end - and in some style too.
