@by: jamie-hillier rubis Yes in my younger and more able days I used to love doing the odd pieces of joinery and surprised myself on how well I could make things like rail and post doors blanket boxes out of recycled timber but my arthritis has caught up with me and my large if not basic machinery now lies idle and I hope one day my son will use them when he gets the time as he is quite good at picking things up. I drool over some of the Blacktail machinery and workshop and it must have cost a fortune but it is worth it in the end eh to know that you did this by yourself? Plus the fact that you know that the things you have made are perfect and not just thrown together like some factory made furniture.

Definitely. If you are watching any kind of crafts based video why would you not want to hear their thoughts on how things went, how to do things, and even the business side? Many many people, including me, look into crafting videos with the idea that "I would love to be able to do this, and get paid to do it". The amount of pride you feel when you make something that people are willing to pay you for is amazing. Time = money, which means if someone is willing to pay out over half a year's salary (for min wage 100% saving their checks) for something you made, that means they are saying you are worth a chunk of their life. Which there is no greater compliment.

@SoFreshSoGreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D

Wood... and Not Wood. Because I absolutely love the warm look of that walnut once it is finished, but I also love the look, durability and coolness of a really well-finished granite counter top. So it has to be a huge kitchen, with room for a granite counter top around the stove and sink. Then a large chunk of walnut wooden goodness for the kitchen table. As for the keyboard warriors and internet woodworking eggspurts who look at a piece of equipment and start critiquing the content creator... I will take the word of the person using the machine, especially if they get the input from the person who strips down and services the machine. But the "worst?" thing is, that watching these videos makes me want to build my own wood and epoxy table for the kitchen. Except, I already have a 3' x 5' kitchen table in my apartment, and that is a little on the large side for the kitchen!

Wood and did. It was in the 2nd house we built. The bulk of the counter tops were granite tile. We added a custom 4' x 7' x 3" black walnut butcher block. One of the 4' sides was against the wall and started about 2'-3' to the left of the sink. It was raised about 6" higher than the rest of the counter top. That way we were able to put barstools on the other side. We left it natural colored and just oiled it, since we actually used it as a cutting block.

The running commentary is very appreciated. I'm not sure if I could live with a wood countertop but this one certainly looks amazing.
Vor 8 TageShamanFryd

Vor 7 Monatezardiw
So what if you ding it.......you have scars don't you?
Vor MonatChris
@SoFreshSoGreen If its thick enough, you can usually fix any wood furniture by just "Sanding it and Re-Coating it with Wax/Varnish", the problem is that the wax/varnish probably wont be the same (so there will be a color difference), and once you sand the top layer you might find more imperfections than when you started that you need to refill or fix. Obviously its not just this simple 2 step process, but the theory works on almost any wood that was accidentaly messed up... its just too much work and sometimes not worth the risk. :D
Vor 4 MonateSoFreshSoGreen
I’m not too familiar with woodworking, but could you resurface these wood countertops? Or would you end up taking off way too much just to fix some dents?

I would only do wood countertops if it was with the intention of it getting dinged up. I couldn’t do one that looked this nice because I know it would get too much wear. Wood... and Not Wood.
