$100 vs $1,000 vs $7,000 road bike TEST (WHATS THE DIFFERENCE???)

I took a $129 Walmart road bike, and put it through a series of tests against a $1,399 Schwinn Carbon Fastback, and my $7,000 Canyon SLX 9 with Princeton Carbonworks wheels.
I used power pedals from Assioma so the power was consistent for all of the tests. I wanted to see what the difference was between a Walmart road bike, an entry level road bike, and a full on race machine.
I talk through the tests and the results but I also go into the overall experience of each bike. Cycling is not just about speed, it's about the whole experience. So does a $7,000 road bike actually make that big of a difference? Watch the video for my thoughts.
Also, of course there are variables that I cant control for. IM NOT PUBLISHING A PIER REVIEWED PAPER HERE DUDE. This is more for entertainment than actual science. But the bikes have enough of a difference between them that 100% of the time the results will show the same conclusion, just not down to the second.

Guys do you ever feel that you're faster than them even though you're on a normal bike cause I feel like racers are so slow

I got a Walmart bike it's Mongoose element have upgraded first thing in the first week I lost my tires cuz they were too soft for street riding there's a daily commuter so I put new tires on it did I say it okay and needed new drivetrain so I got a new track train replace the wheel replace the cassette upgraded the crap out of the second new seed so now I have a 3 $400 Walmart bike and I'm still doing the same thing commuting to work riding to the store getting groceries I'm not going off road I'm not climbing mountains I'm not going down dirt trails but I will be using it as a road bike making a 1500 Mi trip on it just to see if it can be done with a Walmart bike and yes I'm not using stock components but the stock components start feeling after the first two weeks after heavy 18 Mile trips to to and from work

Nice comparison video. I must saw this is very detailed analysis indeed. Could you give me your opinion on which bike is best suited for a cross country ride (50 -60 miles, max 100 miles. I have a Specialized rockhopper comp (29er, men's) bike, do you think this would be suitable for paved roads with uphills ?? Or did I make a mistake and should have bought a hybrid or a road bike?? I paid 800 USD for this, it actually exceeded my budget...I ride every other day for 50 KMs or so. My dream is to do a cross country ride, I am thinking of LA to San Diego (Mostly flat), or Sacremento to Yosemite national park (very uphill). Your thought ??

That Walmart Kent bike does NOT have downtube shifters, they are stem shifters. And why would cut your wattage by some 300 watts on the Walmart bike? Oh, that's right you were afraid it would break...BID DEAL! you should have pressed it to the same wattage as the others break or not, I doubt it would have broke but even if it did it would have shown that a $140 bike is indeed a piece of crap. I also doubt if there are any professional racers here watch this video! so the reality is if your not racing a $7,000 bike will never be utilized to its max potential and therefore a waste of money. Therefore the $1,300 Schwinn is the best buy, that price is on the low side for a long term reliable bike since the sweet spot for a bike is around $2,300 which should give you the Shimano 105 groupset which is indestructible group. However if you are a first time bike buyer looking to get into the sport, I would recommend you go to the use market instead and get a really nice used bike in the $400 range that when new would have been a middle of the road bike, the reason I say that is because about 80% of the people that start any kind of new exercise program only stay at for about 3 months then that nice fancy expensive bike becomes garage art, with a $400 used bike you could sell it for close to what you paid for it, not so with a new bike where you will lose about 75% of its value after the first year!

Soooooo depressed rn, your time on the WM bike for the 4.7 mile climb would crush my PR on similar climb on my $10k bike 😳, looks like I better get a $20k bike , or hit the weights 😬

If you tested a $3000 bike it would be almost the same as the the $7000 bike. You just need to get out of the inexpensive bike range and then you get good stuff. The differences get less and less the higher you go. The $7000 bike would nearly identical to a $12,000 bike in performance.

There is a performance element but the thing that COMPLETELY excludes you using a $100 Walmart bike for serious cycling is durability... a $100 bike will simply not last given distances & volume of riding.. at today’s prices min. price should be $500-700ish

Just my experience but I bought the GMC Denali road bike from walmart 2 years ago for $180. As a first road bike its been really good to me. Ive probably put a good thousand or two miles on it and ive really had no major issues with it besides basic maintenance and having to replace the back wheel after taking a bad spill going downhill. I will say it is heavy and the brakes aren't great but ive managed and its got me hooked on road bikes. I really want to upgrade to a better bike and I have the walmart bike for sparking my enthusiasm. (:

I have a $150 Vitesse 2100. It's not all that great for 100+ mile races. I have seen other guys with fifty-something by eleven and the closest I can get to that, on the V2100, is 48:14. There is only so far I can go on that gear and if other guys are racing their pricey Canyons, those speed monsters, I will be falling far behind, on the V2100. Also, if those guys sat around and waited ten minutes for me to catch-up, they would be fresher than me, which would be a plus for them. Fun fact: I found a 29 inch Schwinn mountain bike at Wal-Mart. I did not look at the price, but it was definately NOT the $1,300 Schwinn that the man, in this video, was experimenting, since Wal-Mart does not sell pricey bikes, over $400, $500 max. Just beacause bikes are from Wal-Mart does not mean that they are cheap, like the $129 that he was experimenting, in this video. It only means that they are not $500+ pricey, but Wal-Mart bikes can still be pricey. $129 is reasonable for a starter bike that you can use to practice with, until you have saved enough money to buy the bike that you will be using, when you beat elite bikers at 100+ mile races. After all, you cannot win races if you do not practice.

Try experimenting 7 speed vs 21 speed bikes (both bikes about the same price).

MTB is great, but imagine having BMX bike vs hardtail vs a carbon fiber full suspension. They would all get down the mountain, but the experience would be wildly different. And dude, ride all the bikes, it's all good.

Vor Monat

$100 is a good amount to spend on a practice bike. That way, you can practice, while you are still saving money for the bike that will win you a 100+ mile race in the future. After all, you cannot win races if you do not practice, especially if you want to beat the elite bikers at their own game. $1,000 can be super tough to come accross, let alone $7,000, but $100 should not be that hard to come-up with. The man, in this video, may not think highly of $100 bikes, and you may not ever win a 100+ mile race with a $100 bike, but it's still good to help you practice until you can afford to spend more.

MR. Nugget, I get what you are saying. For 1, 0% chance I would spend 7k in bike. I was able to get that bike on a long term loan. 2, being able to spend 7k on a bike doesn't make you a prick. Yes, pricks do spend lots of money on dumb things, but not all people who do so are pricks.
