Total fools to walk on hot lava

Personally, I wouldn't take my 4 under 12 kids to an active volcano. I don't need that kind of stress in my life.

I love how you have to jump into waist high snow to rescue the dog at beginning. Prayers to the family of the aircraft disaster. Very sad news. Omicron flashed thru cape cod in Dec 2021 Jan 2022 many people were infected then it dropped off as spring came in March April.

My country would say disrespectfully close to the volcano. Gods etc..... We could never do that where I live. Different worlds. 😁

As someone sober for 38 years I have to admit that I coughed out loud when you described the sculptor as an alcoholic, since it is common practice to say everything BUT that. ;-)

The area you are walking around in, Harfjardur (sp?) Looks very much like that are around Foss Hotel Nupar. Very fun to walk/hike. When I asked if it was OK to walk on the moss, they said yes, but try to walk in sheep trails. It worked quite well. Love that moss. :)

Wish I could remember where it was, but I saw a sign that read "The authorities will not accept liability for any persons lacking common sense." Instead of punishing everyone for the behaviour of a few idiots, maybe you could put that sign up there? Great video, very interesting and I love Polly!

I’m going to be visiting Iceland in September. Been watching Valur’s reporting from the volcano, and today from the woods trail with Polly. I really appreciate his helpful suggestions for tourists. I hope to learn a lot about your beautiful country.

Great newscast, as always! Is it tourists who get too close to the volcano or Icelanders, too? Seems like locals would know the dangers.

I loved the irony of telling people not to walk on the lava, while walking on lava. I watched Isak's drone footage of the idiots on the lava. As well as being able to see that there was glowing hot lava immediately below where they were standing, they were also within range of some of the more wayward lava bombs. The jets are extremely random, and every so often one will shoot out to the side. If that had happened while they were there, even if they managed to dodge the bombs, in jumping out of the way they'd almost certainly have either fallen, or landed heavily enough to break through the thin lava crust. It was totally stupid, and utterly irresponsible behaviour. Although the S&R teams have said they won't rescue anyone in that situation, I know what they're like. They're not the type of folk who could stand by and watch someone roasting to death if there's even a chance they could do something to help. Those idiots were not only risking their own lives.

The people laughing at the beginning of the video sounds like witches circled round their bubbling cauldron as they brew their potions in the hot volcano :)

But, aren't we supposed to NOT walk on the moss? I'm confused .)

some sort of drone type overhead map of the area would help us outsiders understand which way the lava is flowing

Children and pets are more vulnerable to dense, highly acidic, volcanic gases - their heads are closer to the ground.

Children do not need to be brought up to that site . It'd far far too difficult to hike to and very easy to get hurt once there. They can watch online feeds .

Might I suggest posting a sign with warnings of dangers, and how to prepare for travel to the volcano? I live on Lake Michigan. People think it's safe because it's just a 'lake.' Actually, it's an inland sea which can be very dangerous for swimmers when waves are high. 33 have drowned so far this year! Some communities have started posting informational signs to help educate visitors to the danger, as many of the victims are visitors who are unaware of the nature of the lake. Perhaps this could work in Iceland, too?

Peope who are dumb enough to walk on the lava should at least put some herbs and bacon in their pockets for some flavour later on.
