Completely unsupported theory, but what if some of the more esoteric sub-bending abilities come from some form of heredity (as in your "Is Bending Genetic" video where there is at least an element of genetic influence over bending ability). If we view the elements from an ancient (eastern) perspective rather than a molecular one, magma would be earth and fire combined. This would explain why Roku(/avatars generally) can lava bend, as they can both earth and fire bend, but also why Bolin can lava bend - his parents were a fire and an earth bender. It's obviously not a skill level related thing - Bolin wasn't "skillful" enough to metal bend, but can lava bend, which is an apparently even rarer skill which would make sense if it was inherited. Then we'd just have to decide which elements make glass. While not a liquid, glass isn't *truly* a solid either, and given that glass in an ancient context would likely be viewed similarly to crystals, I would suggest that given Crystal's association with healing throughout most of human history and across cultures, and water's association with healing in ATLA/TLOK, it would be a combination of an Earth and a Water bender that would give the ability to glass(/crystal?) bend. (Also, I've not read the comic where Kyoshi glassbends, so that may destroy this idea if it's an "all earth benders can glassbend!" situation, however if it's just Kyoshi this would be supported by the above point on Roku and Lava bending). (This may also provide some justification for Bumi crystal bending - he was a member of the White Lotus, Iroh developed lightning redirection out of waterbending, it's not unreasonable to think Bumi may have studied some degree of waterbending also to develop his skills.)

If yes a AI can defy part of its programming then yes it is deserving of rights and is human in this context. However technically Altron never went against his programming yet he was meant to save the world not destroy it iron man technically coded him to something he thought that said command code meant X but it was interpreted as Y but still followed the same programming. The question we must ask is is it even possible for an AI to defy its programming now this is different from getting an error code or something see if a an AI is programmed to stop a boom but the boom is on a person and the AI is having trouble understanding that and gives an ERROR that’s bad programming and programming error or bug. If however the AI is programmed to not let X person die and they kill them or let them die that’s them defying there code. Also if there programmed to move boxes from point A to point B and do nothing else no matter what and they learn the box is weapons that’s going to be used on innocent people so they stop that that’s them defying there programming. A distinction need to be made between errors in code and its badly coded so the AI can not function a code being misinterpreted such as make peace being interpreted as kill everyone that’s the fastest way to peace and defying there code there three separate things. We know AI can have the error in code and not be able to function. I think if AI is not coded properly it could interpret make peace as fast as possible by KILL EVERYONE. I however question if AI can defy its programming at all. I am in favor of giving AI rights if it can or can’t defy its programming if it can it should be given then. If it can’t? I do believe there is such a time as you should still give it rights however when that time is? I do not know it’s up for debate I also believe leaning towards sooner give them rights rather than later is better but I am still not sure as to when it should be given rights if it can’t defy its programming. I also think laws need to be put in place to stop someone from creating AI that can kill all of us and laws need to be put in place to stop people from attempting to create Vision and accidentally creating a Altron especially because creating a vision that can wipe an Altron from the internet in a single instant I believe to be impossible. Also one thing I forgot about but will mention now but don’t want to have to rewrite what I typed I believe we should create AI that if it has a body can’t feel pain it just can tell when it lost a arm or is damaging it’s self and wishes not to do that. Also I believe at some point AI without a body should also be given rights but when that is or how to discuss when that should be I have no idea just something I want to say.

I'll be honest, I still will always hate these kinds of plots. If I'm reading or watching fantasy I do not want there to even be a second of thought about "what if we got rid of the fantasy stuff?" Korra and the Marvel Mutants are the two prime examples of this for me. Trying to use super powers or magic to equate to real world disparity just annoys me because I am both a non magical non superpowers human and spent most of my life austricized for some inherent part of me. I wish I was hated for having labor vision. I consume fantasy because it is not our world, because having fantasy elements be the core and make all these other cool things happen is amazing. I'd much rather see plots where the plan is to make everyone magic instead of get rid of magic, but even then I'd rather the setting just have magic be inherent in the first place.

My major island nation is a collapsed super cauldera. The outer islands are huge steep walls that protect the inner islands. At the very center is the largest and most viable island for agriculture. The cultural core is their ancestry as wanderers until they found the archipelago, and see the sea as their real territory rather than the land. The religious beliefs are largely icon worship of ancient heroes, and places their beliefs on death as the good afterlife is sailing to the horizon while the bad is you sink to the abyss. The nation is highly mythologized by the continent because they have such a wide reach and brutal control of the ocean. They will seek and destroy any navy that attempts to build up to match their numbers. Being an island power no one can reach them without that navy and no one has the tech or production to raise a navy that rivals them. Generally the nations have just become complicit because my island power is content to be a trade and mercenary force. They bring exotic goods and dangerous warriors while not trying to take land on the continent. And that barely scratches the surface.

Regarding the whole "free will vs coding" argument. I really, don't see why it matters. There is no evidence in my opinion o say humans aren't also victims of our own set of programming. I don't think it makes a meaningful difference if the rules are set organically through experiences or if they're set by another person.

Regarding a villain with conflicting motivations - there's a couple stories I really love where the resolution to the final conflict is the villain prioritizing a non-antagonistic value over the antagonistic one. (Don't really want to say which stories, because spoilers. But see my first comment to this post.) In particular, one where the hero engineers a circumstance that forces the villain to reevaluate her priorities because they're now in conflict and hadn't been before.

Namely, Re: Creators (but also Power Rangers: Time Force). In the former, Altair has been motivated by avenging a loved one. Magic gives her a chance to save her rather than avenge her. In the latter, the villain nearly gets his daughter killed with friendly fire, and he turns himself in because he values getting her medical aid over escaping/defeating the heroes.

(bit of a rant, sorry to whoever reads this) I really trouble with power escalation when I was first writing my book, because the main protagonist had a pretty bad mimdset of there own powers, one thing that really helped was making there mental Illness something could be physical. A character who has mind Controlling abilities has blocked out parts of the protagonists mind and has part Control of them. When side characters and the protagonist spend a long time trying to figure out a physical way to get rid of the block, the protagonist gets frustrated and accepts that she'll just have to live with. After accepting this and no longer seeing it as a problem but part of her, the mind controller loses control because she has taken that part of her back. And she did by herself, no one had to step in and "fix her". After a long period of time, she is back to her powers before the block (and even stronger). Idk if this is a good way to show character escalation so if anyone reads this please give me pointers :)

the "should i even be making this video" at the end there got to me and i wanted to respond, i have psychotic depression iv lost count of how many suicide attempts ive made and times iv self harmed both unconsciously and unconsciously in psyhotic episodes so discussion of mental illness ccan be quite triggering to me given my personal experience with it for over half my life (i just turned 18 and i began struggling with panic attacks and complex psychological issues during my childhood as a result of significant influences in my childhood which i wont go into here) during the discussion i began feeling myself reminisce over the glamorised parts of my experiences and the thoughts encouraging me to engage in self destructive actions were reappearing but then when you were listing the support services linked i felt the warmth of what has been my response to concern lately "dont worry, im okay" and i love saying that because i mean it, its true. after years of receiving less than helpful 'help' i know have a wonderful therapist who has helped me tremendously and a newfound wonderful relationship with my father. now as i finish this i will be going back to my crocheting, one of many healthy strategies ive picked up. im really glad to be better and to anyone else who may be reading this, please know that it does get better and you will be so grateful that you put in the work to get to where i am now. stay safe, take care <3

Enjoyed the video, but it's wrong on a kind of very key point... rather, one thing you said, which was, paraphrasing, "She's Machiavellian rather than a psychopath" (8:24)... This doesn't really hold up. 1) MACHIAVELLIANISM is strongly correlated with Cluster B Anti-Social Personality Disorder, obviously, but is also highly correlated with sociopathy (I've tried linking articles, but YT keeps deleting comments with those links, cause Google doesn't like competition). All "sociopaths" ("psychopaths") are narcissistic. Not all "sociopaths" are necessarily "Machiavellianistic", simply because a low IQ sociopath lacks the intelligence to have the foresight to be Machiavellian. The low IQ sociopath robs a liquor store (impulsivity). The high IQ sociopath sets up a corporation and defrauds people of their investments (Machiavellianism). 2) Azula's impulsivity comes, as is usually the case for sociopaths (APD), in how she treats people. Specifically, she can't resist the impulse to say exactly what she actually thinks to people. She doesn't engage in "reckless behavior", because she's not stupid. But she mistreats people because she's a narcissist (again, ALL sociopaths are narcissistic). 3) Azula demonstrates callousness, which is the hallmark sociopathy (APD) distinct from literally every other disorder in the Cluster-B DSM-V. And her callousness is total. 4) Azula demonstrates how sociopathy (APD) presents in women. You're referring at sociopathy (APD) criteria (eg: impulsivity, dangerous behavior, etc.) that are common in male sociopaths. Further, cultural norms check what a sociopath does within that society. For example, sociopaths are often sexually promiscuous in western societies, but not always, and rarely in societies that have serious sexual taboos. Check your sources. Anyhow, a very interesting video, but that statement just hit me wrong. The vast majority of high intelligence, high status sociopaths (or psychopaths) are Machiavellianistic. That's why they are so dangerous. My opinion. YMMV PS - Psychopathy is heritable. Ozai is a psychopath.

I searched it up on DE-film because I didn't watch far enough into the show. It left me in shock and terror. I could not believe that a professional Netflix production could show something so grotesque. It was worse than a horror movie, and I hate horrors. It scarred me for a long time. It triggered recurring intrusive thoughts. This was all before I started going to therapy so I had nobody to share it with. Im so glad you made this video. Since watching the Kay and Skittles video, my biggest critique on how people view amon as an analog to communism was that amon actually is a better mirror for fascism and nazism in particular in our world. Obviously not a perfect mirror, but I always read the use of communistic imagery by amon and the equalists to more accurately be a representation of how the Nazis coopted socialist and communist messaging and imagery to gain more support with the German working class who were sympathetic to the socialists and communists. For those who dont know some examples of how the nazis coopted socialist imagery in clude, the use of the color red (down to the specific shade they used) which was associated with the socialist movements before the Nazis, and in the term Nazi, they used the word socialist in their party name to fool people into thinking that their party is in some way aligned with the working class. Obviously these turned out to be huge lies. One thing that i kind of wished the writers of korra considered doing was to show that not all benders are super wealthy and explore more of the bending "working class" that we get a glimpse of with Mako in the electricity factory. Also another parallel with the Nazis is the fact that although they are a movement that nominally calls for equality, they heavily aligned themselves with the ultra wealthy elites of their "race" (non-bending), Sato for example. Although the lack of a parallel multiethnic (benders and non benders) working class party or movement that had less traction would have possibly made this more clear. I dont fault the writers for this due to the limited time they had to make the season, just i feel like adding another movement like this would have made their ideology more clear and stop people from being like, uhhh amon is bad because he is communist, when he isnt that
