White Tigress
I like to think this is one of my husband's favorites. He met me when I was a laundry girl. Though we've had similar quarrels, our end is happier than that of the couple in the song. He plays this often. (I love him to pieces.)

So many great versions, this among other discussed at www.salutlive.com/2021/01/cover-story-56-the-dimming-of-the-day-richard-linda-thompson-alison-krauss-bonnie-raitt-.html. Mary Black just edges it for me

Privileged to have been there from over the pond. It was 1983, my first Cropredy. My friend Lee Williams and I managed to get up close for both the Richard Thompson Band gig, which headlined Friday night, and also the next evening for Fairport. We also had a fantastic time taking in the Fairport rehearsal gig a couple of days earlier at the Half Moon in Putney. For a fervent Fairport fan like me, who as an American had never really had an inkling he’d get a chance to see the band live, it was a surreal delight, a dream realized.

Artistic license, HRD Vincent did not have keys, Black Lightning was a track bike no MOT. This being said this is far and away the best motorcycle love ballad of all time. Mr. Thompson is one of the best players of all time. I defy any Ton up Boy, Cafe Racer, or any tipe of bike rider to listen this without shedding a tear. One last word for Mr. Thompson, Nortons will do !

For everyone who relates to this For everyone who's been there For Christy and for Richard Thank you for this song . Thank s to everyone who said they liked it. Thanks to anyone who ever plays this in a bar if I am not there to buy the round. This song tell me I am not the only one who has these feelings. I needed to know that. Losers die alone. Losing love does not make you a loser just human ! A million have been there before a million more will follow. Thank you Richard !

The first time I heard this song was on a Mary Black DVD. I formed and shed the thickest tears ever. I cried for 5 days!! Single and bashed and bruised. It reminded me of when my 8 year boyfriend married someone else. I waited and they divorced but but but can’t go back to him older. Shame. For years I thought I needed him.

Crazy, unpredictable guitar solo at the end there! Lots of outside notes and unusual phrases. RT really is a unique musician. This has to be around 1984 - 1986 going by the general style and... drummer's glasses!

I remember him doing this song during his appearance with Fairport in 1996 - he also did Gypsy Love Songs, Galway to Graceland and Nobody's Wedding. I remember wondering why they didn't do any of the old Fairport songs. This was basically the early 80s RT band though (before the accordion and brass came in).

It’ no surprise when the daughter of a Broadway leading man can belt it out at times during this wonderful song. Bonnie’s voice was purer in the 70s , but she only diminished slighty at this stage, and combined it with maturity of heart.
Vor 4 MonateDavid Hinkes
Yup, ol' Johnny must have surely been quite PROUD of her when he was still of this world!

I broke up with my guy time ago and he dedicated this song to me, we never get back together even if I asked him as I was missing him so much but it was over. I keep on pushing the guys I love away because I'm too scared of being abandoned and suffer. Every time I listen to this song I feel like crying... maybe she's just so scared...
Vor 5 MonateDavid Nissen
I listened to the Alison Krauss version. And then came back to this. Alison's is beautiful. This is overwhelming. And then there is her guitar. When they make lists of fingerpicking guitar players, they get to Bonnie Raitt pretty quickly

I was nineteen when I came to town They called in the Summer of Love They were burningbabies, burning flags The Hawks against the Doves I took a job in the STeamie Down on Cauldrum Street I fell in love with a laundry girl Was working next to me She was a rare thing Fine as a beeswing So fine a breath of wind might blow her away She was a lost child She was running wild, she said As long as there's no price on love, I'll stay And you wouldn't want me any other way Brown hair zig-zag round her face And a look of half-surprise Like a fox caught in the headlights There was an animal in her eyes She said, young man, O can't you see I'm not the factory kind If you don't take me out of here I'll surely lose my miind She was a rare thing Fine as a beeswing So fine a breath of wind might blow her away She was a lost child She was running wild, she said As long as there's no price on love, I'll stay And you wouldn't want me any other way We busked around the market towns And picked fruit down in Kent And we could tinker lamps and pots And knives wherever we went And I said that we might settle down Get a few acres dug Fire burning in the hearth And babies on the rug She said O man, you foolish man It surely sounds like hell You might be lord of half the world You'll not own me as well She was a rare thing Fine as a beeswing So fine a breath of wind might blow her away She was a lost child She was running wild, she said As long as there's no price on love, I'll stay And you wouldn't want me any other way We was camping down the Gower one time The work was pretty good She thought we shouldn't wait for frost And I thought maybe we should We were drinking more in those days And tempers reached a pitch Like a fool I let her run With the rambling itch Last I hear she's sleeping out Back on Derby beat White Horse in her hip pocket And a wolfhound at her feet And they say she even marriend once A man named Romany Brown But even a Gypsy caravan Was too much settliing down And they say her flower is faded now Hard weather and hard booze But maybe that's just hte price you pay For the chains you refuse She was a rare thing Fine as a beeswing And I missher more than ever words could say If I could just taste All of her wildness now If I could hold her in my arms today Then I wouldn't want her any other way

Richards problem is he places too much emphasis on sexual love. This does not lead to happiness
Vor 5 MonatePaul DeCoster
That’s the point. He writes about how it’s ultimately a losing game as a cautionary tale
